Resident Evil 3 Remake. Anybody playing?

I spent about 3 hours with it last night and got up to the first Nemesis boss fight. Playing on the hardest immediately available difficulty because I’ve read the title is much too easy otherwise.

I loved the RE2 remake last year and I am really digging this one so far. Color me surprised that the prevailing online opinion of RE3 2020 is that it’s a solid enough game that is weaker than the last remake and that sacrifices too much from the original version of RE3 - at least, I’ve seen such sentiments echoed in a few of the online reviews.

I barely played RE3 in the GameCube era, though, so I’ll admit that my basis for comparison of the remake and the original is weak.

It’s a decent enough game, but there are two big problems with it, IMO:

1). No puzzles.
2). Far too short.

Without puzzles, the game is just a generic shoot ‘em up. A well made generic shoot ‘em up, but nothing particularly special or interesting. See a zombie? Pop it in the head. Lather, rinse, repeat for three hours. Fun, but ultimately unfulfilling.

The length definitely isn’t worth the price tag. A dedicated gamer could probably speed run the whole thing in about 30 minutes. Personally, I’d recommend people thinking of buying it to wait a couple of months for the price to go down.

Yeah, I can definitely second the game being too short, though I got lucky in that my Amazon preorder price guarantee saved me $10 off the full price. Not sure how I’d feel about it otherwise.

Still, I played through the game on the hardest difficulty out of the gate and it took just over 9 hours to beat. I know that replayability is a big deal in RE games, but I don’t know whether the challenge system on offer in RE3 really warrants a ton of playthroughs.

That said, I only did one solid playthrough of RE2 last year and that one had a ton of reasons to go through it multiple times, so I may not be the best judge of this aspect of the game.
