Resolved: Hard Knocks on HBO is a really neato show

I don’t know if anyone’s seen this, but it’s a documentary series on HBO set in the Baltimore Ravens training camp. It’s really very entertaining.

The really interesting/unique part is that it’s virtually in real time. It covers this year’s training camp, and they’re showing the episodes before training camp is even over. Like this week’s episode, shown on Wednesday, covered the week ending on Monday. One example of why this is so great: Their pre-season game on Monday was cancelled because of problems with the stadium, and got a lot of press and news stories. On Wednesday, 2 days later, you can see the whole thing from a coach or player’s perspective. Beats the hell out of the Real World if you’re a sports fan. Even beats the hell out of Sportscenter.

So check it out if you get a chance…

Well, sadly I don’t get HBO, so I haven’t been able to check it out at all. The concept is cool and I think I’d really like it. The problem is that there isnlt a single compelling personality on the Ravens roster. There is no one on that team I really care to have a closer look at. Any more of Sharpe than I get on Primetime and I might have to have him bludgeoned. Ray Lewis? Doesn’t HBO already have Oz? Billick will probably end up going down as the biggest dick of all coaches, claiming that crown from Parcells and Buddy Ryan shortly. There’s just no one on that roster that I’d consider rooting for, so watching a weekly documentary on them isn’t all that exciting.
