Response to Loach

Loach replied to me in the pit after he closed my thread. I’m answering him here:

You don’t know what I was thinking when I wrote that thread, and it is wrong for you to attribute motives to me. I’ve probably posted hundreds of weird little stories over 20 years. Nothing like that has ever happened before. In the past, when I posted some in the pit, I was told that that kind of thing belonged in MPSIMS. I placed it where I thought it belonged. All but one of the first 20 responses were positive, and I had no idea that tricoteuse would decide to show up and threadshit with faux outrage.

My expectation was that if there was to be any moderator action in the thread it would be at Tricoteuse, telling him to take it to the pit. He seemed to recognize that as well, because that’s what he did.
I had no intention to piss people off with my OP Falsely attributing motives to me and slandering me further after my polite response to the thread closing is extremely shitty of you.

I think that’s very poor judgement. The majority of the reactions were positive, and you had no indication to jump to the conclusion that I was trolling.

You treated me extremely poorly in your reply in the pit. You openly implied I was trolling and falsely attributed motives to me that I did not have. You had no reason to assume them.

All you did was feed a threadshitter’s faux outrage, and validate it.

Links? So I can go see what **Loach **got right…

nm. Wrong forum.

To be honest, posts like this one from the Pit thread kind of make me think **Loach **was going easy on you:

Bet he won’t make that mistake next time.

Whole lot of that going around.

Considering your later posts looked a lot like trolling, don’t you see **Loach **was actually kind?

If an unknown poster posted some of your responses, I’m pretty sure they would have been at least suspended.

I don’t think so. Are you with Mr. Dibble in agreement that the “Bwahahaha!” Post could be reasonably interpreted as serious?

So, basically anything you wrote that could be interpreted negatively we should disregard and ascribe the best possible motives to, while anything positive you wrote we should take at face value.

I don’t think the problem here is Loach not understanding you.

As I said, if you were a unknown poster, I think the mods would have taken it a level over simple thread closure. You kind of got off easy. Just accept it and move on is my recommendation.

Well, it might be helpful if you take it ALL as a joke. I certainly understood the bwaahaaha as comedy.

Look, Scylla writes funny anecdotes. This one missed with some people. It’s bound to happen to just about any comedian that they cross the line. It’s real easy to ignore him if you have trouble interpreting his intent.

For the record though I disagree with this OP. He crossed the line with some. That caused a flare up and the thread got shoveled to the pit. Scylla needs to take a deep breath, move on, and plan his next funny story.

So, let me see if I get this: Loach cannot know what you are thinking, nor your motives, but you seem very comfortable with deciding what Tricoteuse motives are?

I’ll leave it up to other readers to decide at what level your credibility is.

I agree. I’m not here about the thread closing, which is fine.

Loach calling me a troll, and saying that I was deliberately and knowingly trying to piss people off is not.

He had no cause to say that, and I think a moderator has a responsibility to be very careful about what accusations he/she levels against a poster.

I am not a moderator. I don’t get to close threads, or issue warnings.

She. The word is French for female knitter. But les tricoteuses were a group of women who during the French Revolution would sit at the foot of the gallows and knit freedom caps for the revolutionaries in between hangings.

And loach didn’t close the mpsims thread or post in it until a while after I started the pit thread, and didn’t post in the pit thread until today and I started it on Tuesday.

Thank you for explaining my responsibility to me. If your writing came off as trolling to me and the others that reported it as such you may want to examine your writing style. Or don’t. I’ll just continue to mod my forum. Writing a story about making a small child cry and then celebrating the negative responses looks identical to trolling. As a long term poster I did give you the benefit of the doubt and didn’t warn you or outright ban you for being a troll. You are still able to have fun with all your negative reactions in the Pit and posters can still read your original post. What else do you want?

Attention.

Depends on what you mean by “serious.” One fairly obvious way to read that is, “I was fucking with you people the entire time,” which is “serious,” not in terms of your intentions, but in terms of the consequences that sort of attitude brings when you do it on this board.

Part of our job is figuring out who is posting in earnest, and who is trolling, and stopping people from doing the latter. This, necessarily, requires making assumptions about a person’s motives. Sometimes, we get it wrong, and the poster complains that we were unfairly making assumptions about their intent. Sometimes, we get it right, and the poster still complains that we’re making unfair assumptions about their intent. Point being, protests about how you’re totally not a troll at all, really! are only of limited utility here.

I wanted you to apologize for calling me a troll, and for saying that I was deliberately trying to piss people off.

By saying that, you have made it difficult for me to post in the future.

If you feel you correct and you stand by what you said then you should have banned me then.

Do it now, please.

Now they have no choice but to offer a public apology!
