Restaurant reviews by customers

I leave them from time to time. I was on Google Maps and saw a local restaurant we go to for breakfast. I checked their reviews for the heck of it and found this unintentionally funny review:

“My wife and I went here for the first time 2 weeks ago. Now we find ourselves going almost once a week for brunch.”

Sooooo, once more?

:joy: That is funny!

Not a restaurant, but the funniest hotel review I ever read was for a place in Thailand. It was a featured review by the hotel itself, but I don’t think they understood much English. Part of it said something about the rug smelling “like a Chinese man had died in there and they wrapped the body in it,” among other choice opinions. I think they finally woke up to it though, as it disappeared not too long after a friend in Bangkok posted the review on his own website after I alerted him to it.

Maybe twice, depending on what day of the week this is. OTOH, one can read that as “This place is so addictively wonderful that we were utterly hooked after one visit.”

Though I agree your interpretation is the best / most likely one. Writing English is hard for many people. Even (especially?) for native speakers.

I read this as approving of the place and going say 3 times a month.

How did you interpret it?

I think mixdenny’s point is that they first went there two weeks ago. So “once a week” means they’ve only been there twice.

It reminds of every time the Olympics rolls around there’s always some line like “It’s been 8 years since so-and-so won a medal!” So… two Olympics ago?

That they went a total of two times. Once, two weeks ago, once one week later (last week). And maybe…tomorrow. Or not.
