Resurrection of Online Texas hold 'em tournaments for Dopers only (revised thread)

I accept full blame for the theft of Nanook’s line. However, it needed to be said…and nature abhors a vacuum. So Nooker, think of it as flattery and a proxy vote. You know you’d of said it too!

Alas, I’ve been unable even to attempt to participate the last two weeks (and same again next week) because I’m training for a new job and the training runs right up until game time. So I had to content myself with playing a real money table and suckering not one but two people into going all in while I held the nut flush (one had a straight and the other had the lower flush).

I missed this comment the first time around but I wanted to address it:

PR has banned players for collusion. Some of them actually confess in chat (!) and others of them are found out by analyzing hand histories. PR does take it pretty seriously.

Here’s hoping you make it one of these days, Otto. I get a real joy from playing with posters of this board, and from reading your posts I know you are one of the true enthusiasts of poker around.

I’ve been tempted to buy into one of the PR real money tourneys, my (non-doper) buddy and I watched one recently. $5.50 buy in, 488 players, $1250 for 1st, payed to 40th place. That’s a lot of poker for $5.50!

Well if y’all would put some actual money on the table (and of course if PR would get it together and finally start offering private STTs)…

Yeah, the $5 tournaments play pretty wild and wooly, almost as loose as the freerolls. I don’t play multis very often, although when I do I usually cash.

What’s your level of real money tourney?? I mean buy in, number of players, generally speaking.

I’m sorta scared shitless putting any money out there, but I suppose $100 or so wouldn’t break the bank.

Oh, I futz around at the $5+.50s. When I first started at PR I played the freerolls every day because I was unemployed but I felt after a while like they were hurting my game. I have trouble when there are more than a couple of maniacs at my table, and freerolls tend to be pretty much nothing but maniacs because what the hell, it’s free. Same reason I don’t play the play money tables much, except to work through a steam or to kill time when I don’t have the time to make a real money game worthwhile. I do still play the Lucky Dollar on Saturdays when I’m not playing a Player Points tourney. I used to play the STTs more often but I’ve kind of gotten away from them. I’ve felt like working on my cash games lately instead.

It’s Thursday, we gonna play??

How long would doing this take? I’m at home and I’m on dialup. Unlimited dialup, sure, but dialup all the same. Otherwise, I’d love to look into getting in to this once I’m back on the school’s broadband.

I’ve only played twice, first time was a couple of hours, last time was about 45 minutes. I can’t see it going much over a couple of hours…

But the biggest issue seems to be for new guys signing up, there is about a week where you might not be able to get on the right server.

Sign up for PokerRoom right now, and email xrayvision. With some luck you might get in, if nothing else you will be set by the time you get back from spring break.

I’m on dial-up and have never had a problem except for one week where the server was being a bitch to everyone.

I’ll try to make it tonight to defend my title as the worst player but no promises… I’ll have been up for 20 hours by then and I’m already a bit tired now.

Once again, work threatens to interfere. Unless this problem resolves itself by seven or eight, then I won’t be home in time to play with Bricker Jr and smooch Mrs. Bricker and also play poker. I like poker, but the other activities are much more fun.

So - put me down as a maybe, but probably not, tonight.

I should be on tonight unless something surprising comes up.

As a side note, I’m going to Stateline (Primm, NV) this Saturday and play at Buffalo Bill’s poker room.

No word from X Ray…

Just do what we’ve been doing…pokerroom and AIM at 7pm and we’ll figure it out.

I’m AugerXPR on AIM, I only have xray in my buddy list…

I’m here.

Damn, no hat trick gloat dance??
Looking forward to the updated scores…and a beer!

A really great game tonite, there were still several players after an hour. Up and down. I was getting chided for my stack by the guy who went out third, so lots of action!!

As always, a table of great players. A very fine group of guys, I’d set down with this group any time!

Amazing! I came in last place again! Also amazing is that Duke of Rat came in first place again for the threepeat. Congrats to Duke of Rat!

Here are tonight’s results:

  1. Duke of Rat

  2. Kyyrewyyoae

  3. Nanook of the North Shore

  4. Only Mostly Dead

  5. Yeticus Rex

  6. Aesiron

  7. x-ray vision
    Official Rankings:

  8. Duke of Rat 1.32 pts.

  9. Capn Pitt 4.21 pts.

  10. Kyyrewyyoae 4.79 pts.

  11. Nanook of the North Shore 4.96 pts

  12. Only Mostly Dead 6.49 pts.

  13. Yeticus Rex 6.71 pts.

  14. x-ray vision 7.52 pts.

  15. Aesiron 8.15 pts.

And I really, really, really, don’t want to come across as too gloating. I’m of course happy to win, and had to slam a couple of victory beers, but anybody that was at that table tonite saw that there were multiple contenders at several times. That’s poker, there was fierce competition all night. I told the guys I put my own odds at 0.00% before we started. And I meant it!

So here’s looking towards next week. And looking towards playing with a group that I’m starting to get to know as buds, just like a weekly game a my house or their house. Just a lot of fun to be around.

Some of the crappiest cards came my way last night, 25, 46, 82, 63…all unsuited. It probably kept me from bowing out first though.
