I figured as much, but I had heard far more about it being ripped off of a different story. Plus it only really works in very broad strokes; many of the details listed in the description only very very very vaguely might be reinterpretations of Hamlet, but they are definitely descriptions of The Lion King.

After successfully (but at great cost) informing the outside world of their plight, the advocates for an oppressed people are systematically hunted and killed by assassins sent from their oppressors, who have gone to great lengths to pretend to distance themselves from the assassins.
I’ll take a stab at this being The Talented Mr. Ripley, but it’s a real stretch. Of course, many of these have intentional red herrings in them…

That sounds like every young-teen “Loser boy defeats normal boy, wins girl” story.
VIP visits New York City, and sends two associates ahead to secure penthouse quarters in the historic Central Park West district. The visit is disrupted by a local gang of outlaws wielding self-made weapons.
