Revirginization

After seeing an episode of King of the Hill in which Luanne become a virgin again through a religious ceremony, i was wondering. Does this exist?

Do Roman Catholics do this?

It seems similar to the concept of a born-again virgin.

Maybe in the developing world, but in the Western world it seems to me to be more of an evangelical Protestant thing.

It is not part of the Roman Catholic Church’s official sacraments. Other than that, well, I don’t know what every priest in every parish allows in their church, so I won’t say it isn’t happening. It’s not a normal thing, though.

They do, however, have a surgery for that. Which, ick. Just sayin’.

I had a friend who dated a “born again virgin” way back in the day. It took him about two days to corrupt her again. It made me wonder how many times those chicks can keep getting their virginity renewed. Is there a limit?

wat

Really? Wow.

Oh yeah. One hears it’s very popular in countries where that’s an issue.

ETA - I believe the word is hymenoplasty.

Of course, not every woman has an intact hymen in the first place.

What does being Catholic have to do with anything, aren’t the Hills Methodist?

Even if you do reconstruct the hymen, that really doesn’t make you a virgin again.

No, God’s forgiveness for having sex outside of love is limitless.

You mean marriage.

Jessica, a character on HBO’s True Blood, is a recently-made vampire who was turned before she lost her virginity. So any time she tries to have intercourse, her healing factor kicks in and heals her hymen. She’s pretty pissed about it.

Shhh! Obviously, that’s not what you tell him. Are you thick or something?

I’m just guessing here, but I’d say that wouldn’t have re-virgination because they already have a procedure for confession, penance, and forgiveness for sin - and sex, as far as I know, is not a special class of sin. Are there sacraments that are forbidden for non-virgins or unmarried non-virgins?

These re-virginization ceremonies now are a kind of marketing scheme that some churches have adopted, something to give extra visibility and oomph to the conversion process. I guess river-side baptisms have gotten old.

Negative, if by that you mean there being an official or traditional church rite for it. RCC is very much gung-ho on chastity before and outside of marriage, but over 2K years they have dealt with how what happens, happens, and as EdwardLost mentioned there are already perfectly fine, well established sacramental means to mend your ways.

Which wouldn’t prevent some curates from organizing some “re-commitment to chastity” activity or something similar, just to make a point, but that would really all it would mean, it would have no sacramental effects.

No, I mean sex outside of Love, which is forgivable, sex in Love is desired. Marriage is a concept that is going away (Matt 22:30)

But why can’t the person who’s getting revirgified have loved all the people he or she’s had sex with?

I’m not saying s/he has not., but if s/he was having sex within perfect Love there would be no need for ‘re-virgination’, as there would be no sin, no condemnation, in Love there is no sin

Re-virgination seems to inhibits a person searching for Love, by putting up a barrier to intimacy and oneness.

The forgiveness God offers is to accept you instantly, and clean you up of your past mistakes (in this case loveless sex), mistakes which causes damage (which He heals)

Doesn’t matter, apparently. If God’s forgiveness is limitless, one can have all the sex he or she desires - in Love or not. All will be forgiven.

Man, religious people are confusing.
