Formerly the band Rhapsody, but they changed their name to Rhapsody of Fire.
Very cheesy in many way, but wow, I really find myself liking some of their music. They really came on my radar when Christopher Lee died and someone linked to the youtube video of their duet with him. Again, massively cheesy, but I am not one to judge to quickly and I found I really appreciate their style of fantasy-power-melodic-metal.
Magic of Wizard’s Dream with Christopher Lee.
I recently picked up their latest album, Into the Legend. Honestly, they have some pretty powerful music. I really like this track from the new album.
Distant Sky
Anyone else like them? Are they widely well received?
“Massively cheesy but still sort of enjoyable sometimes” is a sentiment I’ll go along with. My preferred band for “Dungeons & Dragons metal” is Blind Guardian, though… RoF is a little bit too far on the side of neoclassical metal for my taste.
I really got into 'em for awhile back around 2007, so right around the time of their name change. Yup, definitely cheesy, and my tastes have moved a bit more towards harder/deathier metal, but still fun.
Didn’t they break up? I haven’t heard anything about them for a while, and their website was down. I kind of like their older stuff (before the name change) a little better. I like the songs that have more symphonicelements to them, like Eternal Glory and Dark Tower of Abyss, but I also like the speedy guitar shredding on Emerald Sword and mostof the Power of the Dragonflame album.
And yeah, they’re pretty cheesy (it doesn’t help that English isn’t their first language), but it’s an original epic fantasy story spread over, what was it, 6 or 7 albums? Their guitarist Luca Turill, can play really fast and seems pretty talented to me. .Their singer is better than a lot of metal singers IMO.
Plus, Christopher Lee! Ok he just did a song and some narration but stil!
