Wizard Rock

How many here are fans of the genre? I’m mostly a n00b, but love Draco and the Malfoys. They remind me a little of TMBG. Couldn’t ever get into Harry and the Potters for some reason; they just seem kind of amateurish. So, what lights your Goblet of Fire?

You haven’t died until you’ve seen Voldemort And The Dementors.

Saruman and the Wood Elves tops them all.

It was the name of an actual group at my high school, probably the best rock band of the time in the area.

Does Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain count?

My favorite was always Polyjuice and the Revolving Cast of Characters.

They’re just able to do so many different styles.

Saw Draco and the Malfoys at this year’s Ohio Library Conference where they played for the after-reception party. Fun to listen to, but they ended up having to repeat since they ran out of songs rather quickly.

Having participated in a few filk sings in my con days, I recognize it as basically a new version of filk with electric guitars and computer rhythm tracks. Like I said, still fun to listen to.

Sweetums, if you don’t mind me asking…How did you manage to get into that? I obsessively hit up the D&theM’s official site for months, waiting to hear when tickets would be released, but they never said anything about it. Ticketmaster had nothing there, so I just figured it wasn’t open to the public or something.

I think my girlfriend needs to see this thread. She’s got the Harry and the Potters CD, I think.

It was part of the conference, I don't know if it was open to the public or not, since I was one of the librarians attending. Basically I saw it on the schedule, walked in, and partied like I was evil.

Apparently, the CD she has is The Whomping Willows.
There’s a difference.

She also likes Harry and the Potters.

I know there’s about a bazillion different wizard rock bands out there, and I’ve heard of quite a few, but it’s very time-consuming to go through them all and weed out the sucky ones. Especially now that I spend most of my ‘net time here. So far, Draco is the only one I really like (unless you count the Pooter Puppet Pals’ Mysterious Ticking Noise) but I am always up for new tunes, so I’ll check out the ones mentioned here, and hopefully expand my collection.

I’ve never read a single Harry Potter book and I fell asleep during the one movie that I was dragged to. I never had any interest whatsoever in the whole thing. But I like Harry and the Potters just in terms of their musical sound. I like the amateurishness of it. They just sound like a basic lo-fi garage band having a good time, which reminds me of my own days of same. I also like their use of the organ.
