It’s *possible * for someone to commit suicide by shooting themselves in the face, but it’s a bit unlikely. Most folks would point the gun at the side of their head or under their chins.
I’m not saying one way or the other. But I was a cop, I’d be checking her hands for powder residue.
Again, it could be that I just watch too many cop shows.
In my experience (maybe 70-80 cases, wish gabriela was still with us), most people stick the gun in their mouths. i.e. they shoot themselves in the face.
So you’re suspicious because she said “face?” That’s a little much…
I’ll check out the clips of Richard Jeni later. I recognized him, but I wasn’t very familiar with his standup. I’m always sorry to hear when someone who makes other people laugh is so unhappy in his private life.
Given the stress she surely was under at that particular moment, I doubt that her wording was as precise as ir could have been. I’m sure that in this case, we can agree that the word “face” encompasses everything above the neck and in front of the ears?
I saw him perform live in 1996 at Gator Growl, a huge annual pep rally at the University of Florida, always headlined by a stand-up comic. They’ve brought in some shaky choices in the past (Bill Cosby bombed), but Jeni was hilarious and the crowd loved him. I remember he also played Jim Carrey’s buddy in the comic book adaptation The Mask.
I will never forget the night I bought his Greatest Bits CD*. We were waiting in line for a movie, and my son mentioned that RJ had a new CD out. There was a music store on the corner so he ran over and bought it.
When we left the theater we put it on in the car. Big mistake. How I kept from wrecking the car, or getting a ticket for reckless driving I will never know. All I can tell you is that it is hard to drive bent over double from laughter, and tears filling your eyes.
Cooking with Bill the belching gourmet.
Sexual harrasment
Sex secrets of the old south.
Jaws 4 the stupidest move ever made.
Bernard Sharpiro
Ever cut on this album is a classic.
I got to see RJ at the Ice House a couple of year ago. Again he was so funny that I was almost happy the show ended so I could catch my breath.
Damn Richard, I will miss you, I wish you would have stayed a while longer.
If you have not heard this CD I strongly suggest that you buy it and prepare to laugh your ass off. Do not listen to it in the car.
Drag! He was so much funnier than a lot of comics out there. Made you laugh without resorting to the lowest common denominator.
I was listening to CNN this morning and heard some talking head say, “He shot himself in the face. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.” :smack:
I know you probably realize this, and are just reacting to the surreality of the statement, but autopsy is standard in cases of suicide to rule out any other cause of death. I don’t have a citation ready to hand, but I’m comfortably certain that the investigating officers would want to make sure that no one was covering up a homicide, or disguising a natural or accidental death for some reason. I imagine it’s also necessary to determine an approximate time of death in a lot of cases, i.e., whether someone died instantaneously from the shot or bled to death.
I remember when he hosted some Stand-up show on VH1.
He was often funnier than the acts that followed.
P.S.
I don’t see his show on the IMDB. Does anyone else remember this? It was like “the A-list” on Comedy Central, but aired on VH1. No, it wasn’t Stand-up Spotlight(with Rosie O’Donnell).
