Richard Jeni dead - possible suicide.

Link.

Too bad. I always liked his work. He didn’t seem that tortured a soul.

That sucks. Some of his material was really about the funniest stuff I ever heard.

Oh rats! I really liked him. What a shame :frowning:

Dang, that’s awful. I remember his “Platypus Man” stand-up show was really funny.

I never cared for his comedy overmuch, but I was shocked to hear this. I can’t really imagine what kind of circumstances woud cause someone to take their own life.

Surprised to learn he was only 45 years old, too.

Oh, no, that sucks!!! I’ve always enjoyed his comedy… :frowning:

That’s terrible! Richard Jeni was one of the more recent standup comedians who could put me on the floor. The guy cracked me up. He was three years younger than me. Wow. Sad.

Equally weird is the fact that Google has marked his official website as hosting malware. (Google warns you that the site may harm your computer.)

I ended up linking to it from Wikipedia and nothing happened. The page is all black with just the name of the site in grey in the middle of the screen.

There has been speculation that he had some health problems.

I agree, but the stuff I’m thinking about was years ago, he never got the hit comedy tv show, but I seem to remember one I thought was decent but cancelled, wonder if that was a motivating factor.

Hearing of the suicide of a celebrity always seems to hit a little bit harder for me, having grieved the suicide of a loved one. I appreciated Richard Jeni’s work, and it saddens me to think that he was in so much pain mentally or emotionally to take his own life.

If we’re thinking of the same show, it was over ten years ago (Platypus Man, 1995), I’d hope he’d be over it by now.

I still remember a routine he did about the movie Jaws 4 that had me in stitches. He was never a superstar but he was always a solid standup. This is sad.

I really like that guy. Damned shame.

That’s the exact bit that came to mind when I saw his name. Dude was good.

Here’s a version on you tube

The version he does in the “Greatest Bits” album is a little better, IMHO.

Saw him perform in LA maybe ten years ago. Laughed so hard my sides hurt all the next day.

Really sorry to hear about this.
Maybe I watch too many cop shows, but does this set off alarms for anybody esle?

Yeah, a little.

Why should it? What else might she have said?
