I gather the young man had some mental health issues. His parents have to be devastated.

Can someone commit suicide without having ‘mental issues’ of some sort?
Plenty of perfectly sane people off themselves for one reason or another. Terminal illness is a popular motivator.
Especially if they use scrotum guns?
The horrible thing about depression is that it isn’t rational. Even though when you’re in the midst of it, ending the pain feels like the most rational thing imaginable. There is no form of arguing or attempts to convince that will help. You have to get outside the mind.

Suicide is such a tragedy. We should all try to figure out how to ameliorate the effects of depression, but I am not certain how to do so. I lost a member of my family to suicide and it genuinely scars the parents. In a permanent way. My heart goes out to the parents of this young man.
I’m Glad that a certain someone isn’t around here anymore to tell us all about what happens to people in the afterlife once they’ve committed suicide.
Those of us with suicidal ideation know it doesn’t follow logic. Sometimes we succumb to the sirens call.
Did it cross anyone else’s mind to wonder if the young man was gay? Or just me? Hunches are worse than useless, but I couldn’t help it. Because if so, Rick Warren would be one of the worst people to have as a parent.
Is Warren on record in believing that people who commit suicide go to hell?
If he does, that has to be the worst part of his son’s death–not merely knowing that he’ll never see him again, but knowing that he will suffer unimaginable agony for all eternity.
It was the first thing to come to my mind. The article says the son battled mental illness, but there’s no way of knowing if this is a complete picture. We will probably never know.
The second thing to come to mind was whether the suicide was enabled by a gun. It doesn’t matter to me, but I just wanted to brace myself for all the arguments.
