Oh damnit! I was hoping this was another standup. “Out of England” is gold. Up there with Louis CK, Lewis Black and Carlin as some of the finest in my opinion.

I was excited about this until I realized that it’s animation. Seems like something along the lines of “The Critic” (Jon Lovitz) and will probably last about as long.

Is it re-airing his old podcasts or is it continuing the format with animation?

I found this snippet from the “new” show.

In the first installment, they dive into 20th-century inventions with Pilkington intimating that everything people really need was invented before the turn of that century. He has one idea, however, that he suggests could improve life: a “nontraditional” way to have kids. “Everyone would live to be 78,” he reasons, “and just as you die, you have a little baby inside you, and as you die, your life carries on.”

This way, he explains, “babies aren’t being born left, right and center … it’s controlled … as someone dies, someone’s born.”

And just to confirm he’s milking a dead horse

The Ricky Gervais Show, which premieres Friday at 8 p.m. on HBO Canada, takes the audio from Gervais’s record-breaking podcast and pairs it with some fairly kitschy, old-school animation to create a 13-episode cartoon series.

Having not heard the podcasts before, I enjoyed it. Rubbish.

Strangely enough, I like the cartoon better than the podcasts. Somehow it’s more charming. And the visuals help to counter Gervais’s annoying cackling and screeching. I hope they animate all the podcasts.

I gave the show a shot. Watched the first one. Hmmm, kind of sucks. Gave it another shot and was bored to death half way through it. I was done with it.
