Riders Rule!

Enfin, the Riders have won a game - slaughtered Edmonton 30-20 - broke that horrible winless streak that the ghoulish sportscasters kept tossing out at us long-suffering Rider Priders - and at Commonwealth Stadium, no less!

Woo-hoo!! The season’s started!!

SWEET! Can I get an AMEN!

It took them long enough.

Now if only the Bombers can wake up.

hey Pipeliner - Bombers did good last night - beat Hamilton. Labour Day Classic at Taylor Field’s looking like a great match-up - two hungry teams coming off wins! See you there.

I grew up in Regina during the George Reed/Ron Lancaster days, and Rider Pride being what it is, I still have a lot of loyalty to the Green Machine (even though I’ve lived in Winnipeg since 1973).

That said, the Bombers are going to kick your green and lilly-white asses come Labour Day. Should be a good game.

Interested in a little bet?

wow, my second sports bet on the SDMB! what sort of stakes were you thinking of? (for trifling legal reasons, I wouldn’t advocate a money bet)

last time, I picked up some Swiss chocolate from Arnold: Psst, Arnold

Money’s too boring (and I agree, there are possible legal ramifications).

Chocolate sounds interesting, as does liquor. An ad of apology in a local paper is a possibility.

As a side note, when I first wrote “I grew up in Regina during the George Reed/Ron Lancaster days,” I wrote “I grew up in Regina during the Lou Reed/Ron Lancaster days.”

Both pretty cool guys, but hardly interchangeable.

Are you in Regina by any chance, jti? I’m overnighting there Thursday for some Friday meetings.

Maybe we could discuss this wager over a Pilsner?

Thursday or Friday? would have to check schedule.

jti: Linking up in Regina’s probably not going to work (scheduling problems), but I would like to hash out the details of our wager.

How does a half pound of good chocolates sound? Not Laura Secord, either - I’m talking Callebaut/Godiva or equivalent.

jti… the Eskies were just warming up on you. Beware of the green and gold next time

Wow I never heard of any of these teams.

MMMM chocolate…I (possibly) won a bar of my choice on that game, currently I’m in negotiations with the person I bet with to find out if I get the bar or not. Now with the Labour Day classic coming up against the hapless Bombers we can possibly win two games in a row. Yay Riders!

: * sings * “Green is the colour…”

Do you want in on this bet, Oldieman? I’m always in the market for free chocolate.

btw, I know a pipeline environmentalist from Weyburn. First name Kyle - does that ring any bells?

hey, Pipeliner - sorry I didn’t get back to you - got distracted by a few things IRL.

In any event, the Riders have managed to put together a two-game winning streak: Roughriders 38, Blue Bombers 29!! Yay!! - First home win for a year, which is a rather sad statistic, but who cares now? Mind you, the Bombers were threatening in the last quarter - it was a good game.

Next up: B.C.Lions.

Talkinsquirrel: if you want more info, check out this: CFL.

jti: Pretty good game, all in all. I can’t believe the stupid penalties the Bombers kept taking (“Offside - Winnipeg,” “Procedure - Winnipeg,” “Holding - Winnipeg.”) And all the turnovers didn’t help either.

Oh, well. The better team won, I guess. Go Green.

I guess the real question is: was the wager in place before the game or not?

naah - no acceptance recorded on the all-seeing SDMB. Talk to you before the 29th??

Whoopee!! The Riders took the Lions, 28 to 20! First time the Riders have put together three wins in a row since 1994! Puts the Riders in contention for the third berth in the Eastern Division, and only a couple of points out of the third berth in the West.

At one point the Lions were 3rd and 45, due to a penalty-laden drive - I’ve never seen any team in that position before.

Next up - the Argos in TO, coming off their second win of the season, against Winnipeg. A Rider win could cement the third place berth in the East.

jti: I’m no mathematician, but it seems to me we have about 18 days before the next Bomber/Rider game.

That ought to be time enough to get a wager in place, eh?

I’m still fairly keen on the 1/2 lb. of chocolate idea, but open to suggestions. I have to confess I’m a little leery of having someone from the Internet send me food. (Nothing personal.)

The only problem I have with the chocolate idea is that I don’t know where to get good chocolate if the 'Riders lose. That was the only reason I didn’t get involved in the original wager. Nope I don’t know Kyle.
