Ridiculously Obvious Stuff You Just Got, Part II

Just wait until Big Bird hits you; it’ll blow your mind.

For my own: only recently did I realize that the Saturn car logo is a cropped portion of a picture of Saturn. For years I just saw it as a swoopy thing.

Not to mention Cookie Monster.

I had an epiphany when I was reading that now closed thread.

I just figured out from this post that “Hee-haw” is the American version of “eeyore”, the sound the donkey makes. All the time I watched the Hee-Haw show back in the 60s and 70s, I thought the name came from loud laughing at corny jokes - didn’t associate it with a donkey at all.

The Infiniti car logo shows two lines aproaching their vanishing point ‘Infiniti’.

Quite clever.

I only figured out a few days ago what **(:3= ** means

“The Goodwill logo is half a smiley face,” said I.

“No, the Goodwill logo is a lowercase ‘g,’” replied Mrs. Urquhart.

Turns out, we were both right.

That’s brilliant!

After years of answering the question incorrectly, I just found out that the glass is really half empty.

Wow, am I depressed…

Keeping with the “car logo” thing, I found out while taking Japanese in college that “Mitsubishi” means “three diamonds”. Hence, the logo.

I didn’t realize until I heard the first Harry Potter audiobook that “Diagon Alley” was a play on “diagonally”. On the printed page, I’d never made that connection. And someone on this board also pointed out that “Knockturn Alley” is a play on “nocturnally”.

I posted this in an earlier thread on the subject (not the recently closed one, which I didn’t read all the way through, so somebody might have brought it up there):

In the Seinfeld episode where Jerry makes up a voice for his girlfriend’s “talking stomach” (it mostly says “Hello! La la la…”), when he goes to sit on the park bench and ponder whether to keep the girl or stop doing the voice, Lionel Richie’s “Hello” is playing. Perfectly ties in with the storyline, yet the significance never hit me.

But are you ready to consider the FedEx logo?

Teach me, sensei…

While reading an article on “House” this week, I discovered that Cameron and Chase are not their first names. That was a real :smack: moment, since I knew that Foreman was not the other guy’s first name. And now I’ve forgotten what their character’s actual first names are again (except Eric Foreman - same as “That 70’s Show”!).

The FedEx logo has a hidden arrow in it if you look at it right. I’m pretty sure I learned that on this very board.

Actually, it’s neither. It’s half full of liquid and half full of air. And since air moves from high pressure to low pressure, you could legitimately say that it sucks instead of blows.

For some reason, I had always assumed that pickles were made from eatin’ cucumbers, and that the difference in size was due to the pickling process shrinking them. Makes no sense if you think about it for even a moment, but I never did. Yesterday I came across the phrase “pickle cucumbers” and I suddenly realized … “Oh, yeah, they grow 'em or pick 'em young or something…” I have no excuse for this long misapprehension about pickles, I’ve picked enough cucumbers off the vine to know they are different sizes as they grow.

That’s okay, when I was a little kid and we put in a garden in the back yard, I got mad because we were planting cucumbers and not planting pickles! :smack: (Yes, they did tell me that pickles were made from cukes, but I didn’t believe them. I was 3 or 4, so what do you expect?)

Two arrows, actually- one in the F and one in the second E.

Now if someone mentions the Disney logo and how the D is not a G, it’ll be just like Something Awful.

Ha! Oh man, I had to stop reading that thread when someone posted about the Fucking Disney logo for the umpteeth time, which then was followed by about twenty responses on how that was mentioned already…several times.

But seriously, why would you think it’s a G? It’s DISNEY! Logic dictates that it HAS to be a D, a malformed and really world looking D, yes, but it can’t be anything else!

Since the last thread was filled with a lot of non-Cafe Society-ish posts, and since I don’t think this one will be any different, I’ll go ahead and move this over to MPSIMS.
