Did a search on “ring of fire”, didn’t see any other posts that looked like this one, so here goes.
I saw parts of “Ring of Fire”, the Emile Griffith story. On USA Network, I think. I was also working on a problem at work (via remote access) so I missed large sections. From what I saw of “Ring of Fire”, it made me want to see the whole thing. Anyone know if USA Network plans to air the thing again, at some time other than 5 in the morning? I saw enough of it that I’d sure like to see the whole thing, but sure didn’t see enough that I’m gonna buy it on DVD or anything.
For those that have no idea what I’m talking about. Emile Griffith was a boxer/fighter. He pounded a guy so bad in the ring (“Kid” Paret) that Paret died shortly thereafter. The movie/special/documentary covered a myriad of topics…including a possible motive for the savage beating… Paret had called Griffith a not very nice name during the weigh-in… a pejorative name for a gay person. Happened in the early 60’s, so even less enlightened time than now.
Also dealt with how Paret’s wife and kid feel about Griffith. Griffiths’ boxing career after that fight. Being in “men’s” sports and being gay. Lots of issues. So, I guess I’m not only asking if it on at a decent time, but kinda recommending it to others.
