At work the other day (well, yesterday, in fact), we had a little birthday celebration that caused all of us to gather together in the kitchen. Our jumior landman offered the observation, “Wow! Ringo looks like he’s ready to do some serious ass-kicking!”
It caught me completely flat-footed. What the hell inspired that?
From some subsequent comments I gleaned that his statement was inspired by the fact that, having been on vacation last week, I’d let a goatee grow out.
Now, I don’t really like to wear facial hair, but it was a vacation kind of thing to do. It’s already starting to bug me, and it won’t survive the weekend.
That’s beside the point.
Goatee = badass!?! WTF?
That perception caught me wholly off guard.
So, two questions here:
1.) I’m sure some of y’all have encountered similar disconnects between some seemingly innocuous (to you) facet of the environment and somebody else’s perception of same - what are they?
2.) Why in the heck would a goatee (lots of’em around these days) cause someone to think I’ve geared up for barfighting?
