Somewhere I have a picture of him wailing away as he strutted past me at a concert at the Oakland Arena. I guess hopping off the stage and playing his solo while walking around in the audience was a thing for him.

Nope, that would be too cool. It was Thomas Neal Cartmell. He also played with the Blues Brothers and Grand Funk Railroad among a list of many others.
