Great loss.
If you want to see a wonderful side of Isaac Stern, watch the documentary From Mao to Mozart. It’s about his tour to China IIRC in 1979, when China just started opening up to the US. It is just fascinating. The joy and warmth of the man is just outstanding, and it comes through very clearly in the film.
I’m gonna miss him. He was so talented and just plain likeable. He was super in the “Home Alone” movies.
What?
I heard him play once, in Virginia. Actually I liked his recordings more, probably because of choice of music. His version of Bruch’s violin concerto is just wonderful.
I wish I’d seen him perform live…
Thanks for the recommendation, China Guy. That sounds like a really good documentary.
Oh and before I forget, I’d be honored to bestow a discreet and friendly thwap on spritle.
Truly a great loss. I’ve enjoyed his playing for years, I wish I could have heard him in person. Truly he has earned his rest.
