Actor and Comedian Jerry Stiller has passed away at 92, “of natural causes.”
One more grievance in this year’s Festivus celebration.

Nobody can play “Angry Old Man” better than Mr. Stiller.
RIP.
Shown perfectly in one of my favorite Seinfeld bloopers.
One thing I always liked about Seinfeld Bloopers is how easily Julia breaks (and once she starts laughing, they might as well quit for the day) and how Jerry Stiller almost never does. In fact, he usually keeps a straight face while everyone else is falling apart.
I used to watch his routines with wife Anne Meara all the time. Great stuff.
I never watched Seinfeld or The King of Queens, so I don’t think of him as “Angry Old Man”
Hell of a career. I’ve been watching him (and his wife, the late Ann Meara) for 50 years - It would have been longer, but his career is longer than I am old. By all accounts I’ve heard, he was a nice guy, too.
My parents really liked Stiller & Meara, so I don’t remember a time of not being aware of them. It seemed like he was around forever, and he effectively was. He was very funny.
Serenity now!
A recent podcast interview of Jason Alexander (Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast) was filled with warmth and affection for Mr. Stiller. Alexander said that Stiller had this attitude of just being glad to be there and working, but Alexander thought he was not only a great treasure, but a really, really great comedian and actor.
I shall think of him each time I don my man bra. :o
RIP.
RIP, Mr. Stiller. Clearly a lot of people remember you best as George Costanza’s father, but to me, your most memorable role will have always been Maury in Zoolander.
He seemed like he was loved by everyone who knew him. He’ll be missed.
“Festivus, for the rest of us!” My favorite Seinfeld character. You done good, Mr. Stiller.
“I got a lotta problems with you people!”
He’s why I aspire to one day grow up to be an old Jewish man.
He will be missed. In another tribute thread someone linked his reading of The Anarchist’s Convention by John Sayles. It was part of a series of short story readings by actors. It’s an entertaining, funny story and Stiller is perfect.

[/QUOTE]I was about to post a similar link–it’s a gentle introduction to anarchism as well. Younger dopers may not get all the references, e.g. Rev. Moon, the grape boycott to support farmworkers, the folk song movement, but they may not be essential. “We’d show this bastard the wrath of the people!”
mansiere
I immediately thought about that one and the blooper where he’s trying to say “Del Boca Vista”.
'Twas the night before Festivus and all through Queens,
Not a Costanza was yelling…as strange as it seems.
The family was sleeping, just waiting for light.
Saving their strength for the upcoming fight.
At the crack of dawn on December twenty-three,
Frank put up the pole... instead of a tree.
Estelle prepared the meal that would start the rite,
Not a laugh or a smile was anywhere in sight.
George dreaded this hour that came every year,
The airing of grievances would soon be here.
Frank stood at the table and bellowed out loud,
"So who's got a complaint amongst this crowd?"
"You two are crazy and have wrecked my life!"
Cried George at his parents who mocked him for spite.
"A Lloyd Braun you'll never be," was Estelle's refrain,
"Why should I try, Ma?... the guy's insane!"
"Enough with the grievances," Frank said with some glee,
"Now which one of you two is wrestling me?
So feats of strength you want? Let them begin here."
"It's your turn to fight him, Mom... he beat me last year."
The battle was started, the screaming was lyrical,
The fact no one got hurt was .... ANOTHER FESTIVUS MIRACLE!!!!
RIP, Jerry. Thanks for the many decades of laughter.
Aw man, that’s beautiful!
Mr, Stiller was one of the greats! He will be missed.
I still quote him in my head when I meet someone I don’t like:
“This guy…this guy…he’s not my kinda guy!”
I think he was translating from Korean on Seinfeld. I haven’t seen Seinfeld in almost 20 years.
