Michel Legrand, the jazz pianist and film score composer, has died at the age of 86. You can read an obituary here.
Legrand wrote the scores for over 200 movies. He’s best known for The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (with the song Je ne pourrai jamais vivre sans toi, AKA I Will Wait for You), The Thomas Crown Affair (with the song The Windmills of Your Mind), and Summer of '42 (with its theme, sometimes called The Summer Knows). He continued to work through 2018, with his last movie being the as-yet unreleased Morning Shine.
Michel Legrand was a giant in both movies and music. He made music that was beautiful without being cloying.
