Having enjoyed The Vinyl Cafe for many years, the CBC show, the books, the live show once way back when… Canada has lost its most esteemed raconteur today. I’m sure many will be saddened to hear it. I am too – Dave, Morley, Sam and his characters will live on for many years.
He announced a hiatus in November for advanced melonoma. I had a university friend die from that. Awful disease, sometimes.
I will miss him and the show. One of my weekend pleasures.
This really hit me. I read one of his books when I worked at CBC, and then followed his podcast. My daughter and I listened to his CD set on a road trip, and she fell in love with his stories as well.
Such a loss.
Ah, man, such sad news. Everyone I know is totally bummed!
He was a brilliant humorist and a national icon. He will be sorely missed.
I can remember telling friends how I was looking forward to him getting older. RIP
I still remember so fondly when he’d come in and talk with Peter Gzowski on “Morningside”. This is so sad.
To all of Canada: Those of us from the “Way Upper Left Coast” will miss him, too. Thank you, CBC, for years of pleasure.
