Rittenhouse after the verdict

She knows she’s not blonde enough for a future at Fox, so she’s honing her standup.

My guess is he goes into full time grifting. He’s the darling of the right wing and there are plenty of people who would jump at the chance to throw money at him.

There will almost certainly be civil suits, and the same yutzes who ponied up for his criminal defense will likely help him fight and/or settle those. Then, if he’s savvy, he can keep the spigots open by perpetuating the victim card and raising money for various quasi-political activities that mostly just line his pockets. A.k.a., the Trump model.

How do you see him being successfully sued when he is was “only defending himself”?

My non-lawyer understanding is the the standard of proof in a civil trial is different than a criminal trial so even though he was acquitted, he might still be found liable, much as OJ Simpson was acquitted but lost in a civil suit.

Yes I was thinking of OJ as well… in his criminal case the first trial jury found him not guilty of the killings, but the jury in the civil case did believe he did it and held him responsible for the deaths.

I assume any civil cases here would accuse Rittenhouse of causing the deaths/injuries to the people he shot. He had a horseshoe up his butt in his criminal case when WI. law said the prosecution had to prove Rittenhouse didn’t think he was going to get killed and acted in self defense. How he ended up in that situation wasn’t relevant.

I’m no lawyer either but I think in a civil case what he was doing there and his motivations for taking a loaded gun out after curfew would be relevant this time. Plus it’s now obvious and a matter of record that he did indeed shoot and kill people that night. Proving he was responsible for those deaths in this case is a lot easier than what needed to be proven in the criminal case I would think.

The thing I wonder is whether he’ll ever be dumb enough to strap on a gun and go “defend” businesses during another protest. IMO he’d have a target on his back; everyone would know he’ll shoot protesters and I wouldn’t put it past one of them to recognize his face and pre-emptively shoot him before he got a chance to kill anyone else. And if I were one of his gun-carrying buddies I’d want to be standing far away from that kid during the next protest.

Plus, you might be able to get stuff into evidence that was barred from the criminal trial, such as the video where he talked about shooting shoplifters.
