Rizzoli & Isles kinda sucks; Covert Affairs kinda doesn't

I watched the first episode of both series this week. Neither really swept me off my feet. I’d have to say, though, that Covert Affairs was a lot more fun, though amazingly improbable. And Piper Perabo is smokin hot, while Angie Harmon looks like she’s been ridden hard and put away wet a few too many times.

:dubious: You got some high standards there, boy, er Boyo.

I was okay with Rizzoli until she went to prison to interrogate The Surgeon. If you can call asking someone “Who killed those people?” interrogation. Lame, even for a ripoff. Not bad as a parody though.

One reviewer who’s seen the first four episodes says Rizzoli gets worse. I’ve heard good things about Covert Affairs though – compliments on the tight plot. Or maybe it was compliments on the characterization. Compliments on something.

I’m gonna get my Wire DVDs back and give up on TV until Mad Men and Dexter come back.

I thought she looked kind of hangdog and disinterested – basically phoning it in. I’m sure she cleans up real good.

I think they both kind of sucked. But they were pilots, so maybe they’ll improve.

I don’t know about that, but Sasha Alexander is a babe.

By the way, when did it become okay to say “tits” and “bullshit” on TV?

I didn’t hate Rizzoli and Isles. I’ll watch it again. And Angie Harmon is a babe.

I recorded Covert Affairs, but won’t get to watch it until the weekend.

Angie Harmon is one of my all-time fantasy women. If she was looking that bad, I wish I was the one that rode her hard and put her away wet.

I saw the previews for that show and I thought she looked pretty damn good. Do I need to see the whole episode to get idea of how she looked badly to you? Or are you just not attracted to her in general?

Stink Fish Pot, she didn’t look bad, just different from usual. Harmon’s character is supposed to be a tomboy who doesn’t pay attention to hair, makeup, and fashion, in contrast to her friend the medical examiner, who wears four-inch heels to crime scenes. So in the show, it doesn’t look like she’s wearing any makeup and her hair is either pulled back in a ponytail or just all over the place. So maybe she looks kinda rough in comparison to roles where she’s been more put-together.

Rizzoli and Isles is great Truly, i love these women and I love that they love wHt they do. Period.

Okay, Love what they do and love that they are not strereotypical women.

I love the books by Tess Gerritsen – new one just released! I didn’t see the whole episode because I was wiped out and had to sleep, but I liked it well enough.

I haven’t watched Covert Affairs yet, probably tonight. I was disappointed with R&I, but will give it another go. My problem with it was that people who should know better kept doing stupid things.

Isles tells the FBI guy about the stakeout.

The FBI guy shows up to “help” w/o telling anyone else he’s going to be there. (I thought for sure he was going to turn out to be the apprentice.)

The former partner guy goes way, way into the woods to pee leaving both himself and Rizzoli vulnerable to attack.

Rizzoli climbs into the back of the van to id the victim who is in a body bag on the floor of the van. Yeah, right. She should have known that was not the ME’s van.

I watched both shows, and think that CA was the better of the two. Angie Harmon was always one of my favorites from L&O. I agree that she didn’t look as good as she did on that show, but her appearance seems to be in character. I’d not paid too much attention to the previews and was glad to see that Sasha Alexander is back at work. I’ll always think of her as Kate though.

Looking forward to next week.

I’ll give it a go. Which one to read first? (Although last time I tried a book that a TV show was based on I was pretty disappointed.)

The OP is a filthy lie. Rizzoli & Isles entirely sucks. Even the shared hotness of Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander could do nothing to help. I felt a little vexed by the darkness of the pilot as well, as it was not at all in keeping with the lightness of the commercials.

Start at the beginning with The Surgeon. Isles isn’t in that; she comes in the next book, The Apprentice. She started out with a bunch of romance thrillers which have been recently reissued, so if you see them you might think they are new. The new book is Ice Cold, which I have on request at the library. Gerritsen is an M.D. so her medical thrillers have verisimilitude. Plus I’ve met her and she’s really nice!

OK, I’ll give the Surgeon a try.

We watched R&I the other night. Mrs. FtG loves the mystery stuff and has read a bunch of the books. Which of course means she blabbed the who-does-who in the future stuff. There are no spoiler boxes in real life.

Okay-ish but stupid in places. E.g., the guy gets out and leaves her in the car. Sheesh. Doesn’t anyone on TV know how bad this is?

But OTOH: It has D-Day! Yippee. He’s played cops or some such before, just ask cousin Vinnie. That makes it all worthwhile. How long before Boon or Flounder guest star?

Yeah, Bruce McGill is always great. I’m glad to be seeing more of him lately. He recently played a fire chief on Psych, plus several obligatory L&O appearances.

I thought R&I was okay, even with some bonehead moves by the characters. The chemistry was good, and the characters were interesting. I liked the scene of the two chicks lying in bed together; maybe there will be more of that? And I’ll watch Angie Harmon in anything.

I thought it was interesting that this is Sasha’s second series in a row co-starring with someone named Harmon…TRM

Dr. Isles, TV already has a Bones.
