I’m a republican; have been ever since I became self-aware in my mid-teens. And, surprisingly, I agree with you far more than I disagree RE: Bush. I voted democrat for the first time in my life this past election… felt icky all day, but I did it. 
Alas that it didn’t matter.

I thought you were innocent until proven guilty, but it’s probably one of those things they (whoever “they” are) lied to me about in school.

The “not proven” verdict is available to courts in Scotland, but not any other part of the UK. (AFAIK)

Did anyone see the interview with one of the jurors on Larry King (IIRC)? Before answering the first question he promoted his own CD (not sure what it was about, I think I heard something about him producing it throughout the trial). Everyone on the show, and myself as well, were pretty stunned by it. One analyst said a few minutes later that there is a 90 day ban on profit from a case (so the juror broke the law, I guess) for a juror and that he thought it should be re-written to a year when the public wouldn’t care that much. He also brought up the fact that high profile cases may cause jurors to think “hm… which verdict could I cash in on most?”
Seeing that juror pull out that CD pissed me right off.
I don’t much like the idea of grading verdicts, because I think you’re supposed to retain the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. If that never happens, innocent you remain, except that a lot of people still think you’re scum.
I do think it’s fun to think about “not proven” and other possible verdicts that would be more descriptive of what the jury thinks:
–not guilty, we mean it and we’re sorry to have put you through this;
–not guilty, but don’t do it again;
–not guilty of the crime you’re charged with, but use the rear door to exit;
–maybe guilty, but definitely the least objectionable character we’ve encountered at this trial and the lawyers and witnesses will please use the rear door to exit;
–we’ve been listening to obvious lies from both sides for two weeks. Tails.

I’ll admit it. I am far-out-there-looney-left liberal. I am so far left that I’ve nearly circumnavigated the globe. One thing I am not is rabid. Rabid is bad. Rabid means drool gets everywhere and you have this horrid tendency to bite people who haven’t been doing you harm.

It’s not even something you’ve done since the re-election either; you did it before, in Bush’s first term, and you were more than disparaging of conservatives in the latter part of Clinton’s second term. And it is getting fucking old, even (and sometimes especially) to the people who are closer to you politically than those who are not. Would you please knock it the fuck out? I, and probably others, are tired of your bullshit, but I’d be willing to give you a pass if you just shut up in non-Bush-related threads.
I’m interested in what Bush and his Administration are doing. I am also interested in the outcomes of cases since they provide a back support of common law for future cases. Even when they’re overhyped, they can still be interesting, and intimating that those who discuss it here are somehow lacking in intellectual capacity because they are not using EVERY. SINGLE. POST. to talk about how much they HATE Bush is disgusting. But it’s what I’ve come to expect from you. I would say you were a liberal december, but he at least amused me from time to time.

Then, every time you’re in some other thread and you’re tempted to post a right-bashing comment that has nothing to do with the discussion at hand, you just post it in the other thread instead. Then, anytime anybody wants to hear what you’ve had to say at any given time they can just open that thread and get all the rjung there is to be had.

Oh, good Christ. I’m a freaking American and I can see where that problem would come up! I’ll fight anyone telling me Americans are bad given the circumstance and amount of booze involved.
But, slag Scotland and it’s go-time. Hell, I have St. Andrew’s flag flying under the US flag out front as well as displayed on my car next to my family’s crest. I view them as a defense if I have to face an assault charge in court.
I don’t hate Englishmen, but being Scot/Irish I’m not real fond of England.
