Robot Chicken - Real Action Figures?

I just watched the Robot Chicken episode that followed The Incredible Hulk’s career. It was set up as an “Inside Edition” segment complete with an animated plastic Pat O’Brien as the host. It looked like an authentic O’Brien figure, definitely not one of the crude claymation characters RC sometimes uses. The episode also showed Hillary Clinton chasing Bill around the house with a frying pan. It struck me after the Hulk bit: Who in the world would make or want to buy a Pat O’Brien action figure?

I can somewhat understand a market for figures of the Clintons, but Pat O’Brien? Does anyone know where they get those non-action figure action figures? Are there Phil Donohue or Oprah figures on the market?

I’d kill to have the “My Dinner with Andre” action figure set.

As I understand it, they make their own figures for the show, even when they’re doing something that could be taken care of by a run down to ToysRUs.

that’s what I’ve heard, too. If you think about it, all you need are different heads since most of the action figures can use the same torsos and just change the clothes. Getting an action figure made isn’t ridiculously expensive, and having just a head made is probably even cheaper.

There’s a whole hobby class for making custom action figures. Generally starting with real figures that somewhat match the shape of who you’re going for, then sculpting the rest with Super Sculpy, and painting as needed. You can also kit-bash other figures to get what you need. Check out the magazine ToyFare for custom figures, and comic strips created using said figures. Cool stuff.

oh, and here I thought someone was going to tell me where I could get the scientist and teh chicken…

dang.

Yep. I’m a customizer. I’m active on Joecustoms.com (I even use the same handle.)

This is a website with links to a lot of different custom sites.

I didn’t realize there was such a large community doing this, thanks for the responses!
