Remember the TV show last summer, about the guy named Rocco starting a new restaurant? Is it still in business? Any NYC dopers ever eat there? Is Rocco’s78-year old mother still a slave in the kitchen, churning out those meatballs?
I work for American Express selling cards to small business owners.
I’d say Rocco’s is doing okay. I still get callers occasionally who make a point of mentioning the show, if not the resteraunt itself. Not as many as there used to be, though.
I cab by there all the time. I don’t believe it’s Rocco’s anymore, but I could be wrong. Personally, I liked it as “Commune” though the name always made me feel like taking a shower.
Appears to be a going concern as they post a phone# for reservations: http://www.nbc.com/The_Restaurant/
I live across the street from Rocco’s. It is still open but I am not sure how well it is doing. We ate there once – very ordinary, food was pretty cold.
Hmmm… Cold food has plagued them from Day One. Guess that’s what happens when the kitchen is in the basement.
