Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

From this article there are several viable acts to be inducted. I think John Mellencamp deserves it, the Sex Pistols are a lock, and maybe Blondi and Skynerd.

While Miles Davis is a great talent, I don’t associate him with Rock, the others, meh.

Your thoughts?

Black Sabbath needs to be put in. In fact I am amazed that they have not already been inducted. They have influenced just about every metal band that has come out.

Slee

They just becme eligible, 25 years after first release. And, yes, Black Sabbath should be inducted.

No expert here, but wasn’t Sabbath’s first album released in 67? That’s longer than 25 years…

George

Sorry, make that 1970…

George

From the Yahoo article, I thougth this was their first year, but, yeah, let them in.

Chic and the Sir Douglas Quintet are contenders, but no consideration for Van Halen?

Nonsense.

Stilll no Warren Zevon? What are they thinking?

Melllencamp deserves to be there, as does Skynyrd. But Joe Tex? He was nothing without the sex-o-lettes, man.

Maybe I’m being whooshed here… but Joe Tex was a soul star best known for songs like “I Gotcha” and “Ain’t Gonna Bump No More With No Big Fat Woman.” Disco Tex (and his Sex-o-lettes) was a character made up by flamboyant hairdresser Monte Rock III, who had just one hit: “Get Dancing.”

Neither is really worthy of the Hall of Fame. But then, Frankie Valli is in, so how big an honor could it be?

Hey, that’s right. I did mix up Joe Tex and Disco Tex. All them Texes sound alike.

has ike Turner been recognized for his work?

Not as an individual, but Ike and Tina Turner were inducted as a group. Link at left under Inductees

Not eligible yet. They won’t qualify until 25 years from the release of their first album.

At least I’m not the only one who can’t count. :smack:

And metal has influenced a large part of mainstream rock. But I think Sabbath have asked that they not be considered for induction.

XTC. [sigh] Their career sales figures are only so-so, but they’ve been one of the more influential and admired bands by other musicians. Sadly, this posting is becoming an annual rite of mine!

Their first album was released in 1978.

Agreed on Mellencamp, Skynnard and especially Sabbath. Black Sabbath was hugely influential on hard rock and Tony Iommi is an under-recognized guitarist. He basically created the vocabulary for heavy metal riffing.

I’m still waiting for ABBA & the Electric Light Orchestra to get in.

Yeah, that’s why I said I couldn’t count. I was thinking 1970 was the cutoff year because of Sabbath getting nominated, then I saw the other nominees and went, “Hey, wait a minute…”

Shows how much attention I ever paid to the HoF.
