Before it was announced that Ty was out, I really thought that it might be Jordis. Her performance of “Listen Like Thieves” seemed a little low-wattage.
When I heard JD butcher his INXS song this week, I figured that all Ty and Jordis had to do was avoid screwing up and JD would be OUT.
Unfortunately, not only did Ty butcher his INXS song as badly as JD, but Ty screwed up the lyrics.
Then, Jordis put forth a merely mediocre INXS performance, but it was enough to keep her from being booted.
Ty really blew it, and he has nobody else to blame but himself. It’s like he missed the field goal that would have put him 1 point ahead of JD.
Someone tell me Ty did not try to play the race card there tonight. That was just…Grrr. He’s a great performer, but he didn’t get voted down because he’s a brother. He got voted down because Marty, Mig and Suzie’s fans got in and voted more times than his fans did.
There’s a lot of places and times where people are being held back because of race, but I really don’t think that Rockstar INXS is a pit of anti-black conspiracy.
Oh, man, that was embarrassing. This is the first time I was tempted to fast-forward through each of the bottom three performances - and then Ty pulls the race card??? That was so wrong - what a sour note to go out on. Everybody better take notice - you’d better know those damn lyrics down to the syllable. Ah bend:INXS listens like thieves to every word, and you screw it up, you’re going home.
So what kind of cheesy reunion is Burnett going to go for at the end? Bring all the contestants together to be the choir behind MiG and Suzie’s rendition of You Can’t Always Get What You Want? You know Burnett can’t resist the cheese…
On the INXS forums a lot of people are suggesting that Ty was playing the ‘gay’ card rather than the race card now. I think it was the race thing myself, but…
It was definitely the race thing. Unbelievable.
Ty honey – you didn’t get booted because you’re black – you didn’t get booted because your mohawk looks stupid – you got booted because, although you’re a talented performer, you’re totally not right for this gig.
I never liked Ty because I sensed a shoulder chip early on in the show. I was appalled at his insinuation that he was being booted because he was black because it sooooo wasn’t the case. He just killed any goodwill he developed during the show. His interpretation of “The One Thing” was just…awful. By the way, I thought he had the least amount of soul of anyone there. I think he was being racist when he assumed that we would expect him to have the most soul.
Okay – I’ll admit I’m among the unwashed. I can’t stand Jordis on any level. I find her performances that aren’t outright awful to be merely mediocre. I find her unattractive, dull and among the least interesting people there.
Jordis fans, please tell me what I’m missing! I can’t for the life of me figure out how she (or JD for that matter) has managed to cling on to this show. And how she’s escaped being in the bottom three until now.
Help me understand.
She’s dark-haired & out of shape, so girls aren’t threatened by her.
She sounded kind of cool at the beginning. She has a neat voice for this one particular “style” (read: small repertoire of vocal effex).
Actually, she did a much better job on “Gimme Some Lovin’” than she thought, by stepping out of her box a bit.
She looks like she could be Andrew’s kid. (She’s not, but she’s about the right age.) The whole band is all paternal toward her, so they praise her out of proportion.
Throw in mass psychology, & there you go.
I thought Ty did well with “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” I thought he was weirdly high on “The One Thing,” but Jordis seemed to lose the melody on “Listen Like Thieves.”
Oh, well. I know he wanted this* bad,* but maybe Ty needs to be some place he can musically direct.
INXS are left with some questionable choices.
MiG would be great–in another band. I’m thinking metal.
Marty doesn’t seem to have much endurance for singing. I’d want to hear him do a set before hiring him.
Jordis… eh, no.
JD wants this thing really bad, but his professionalism is sometimes questionable. But he does seem to fit the band’s “feel” & mood.
And Suzie’s just amazing.
I’m thinking JD or Suzie, but I wouldn’t have cut Deanna in favor of Marty, so what do I know? MiG would be commercial, & Marty is very… visual.
Hey, if it were my band, I would throw out the audience votes & go with what I thought was cool.
