Rocketeer's model-building over the last couple months

I haven’t posted here for a while; Mrs. R built me a Facebook account, so I’ve been sucked into the Infinite Hole. But I thought I might report in here, and let you guys see my latest model projects.

An outfit out of Australia called Miniature Scenery makes some interesting steampunk kits in Warhammer scale from laser-cut MDF; they’re generally well-engineered and go together without any stress. My first kit from them was their Scuttlebug transport (Little R’s boyfriend says he’s thinks it’s “Nurgle”, whatever that means.):

Next I got involved with their “Chastiser” Battle Church conversion for Games Workshop’s Rhino kit; I was almost sucked into the Charybdis of Warhammer, but managed to stop, heart pounding and wallet smoking, on the brink of the abyss:

Their “Ursula” Heavy Mortar (Mrs R hates the paint job):

and the “Steel Wyrm”, a bit more fiddly than their other kits:

I also discovered the website of Ramshackle Games, out of England, and bought their charmingly clunky “Gnu” Military tractor. I couldn’t bear to build another dirt-and-grass-tufts base, so I set it in an exhibition hall and painted up a little Hasslefree Games figure to go with it:

…and I’m slowly continuing on the spaceliner Aetilia Gargantyr; she’s in primer now, waiting for me to mix some paint and crank up the airbrush:

It’s been a really productive couple of months. While glue is drying on one project, I can do something on another (and, if the hiatuses aren’t too long, I can usually remember where I was!).

Awesome stuff; can’t wait to see the Aetilia!

Thanks for the update. Model building is quite a thing on YouTube now, if the sheer number of people making booknooks and whatnot recommended to me is a measure of anything.

Most of those people are good; you make them look merely competent.

Was the Aetilia the one that you were looking for a quiet motor for, or was that just a similar design?

Yep, that was Aetilia Gargantyr. Beowulff sent me several very quiet motors, so I used one of those. It’s still audible, but much better than my first motor.

Thanks!

Your models are some of my favorite posts on the Dope.

Thanks! Mine, too!

Awesome as always. And so many in one thread, a real treat. Post more WIP pics as well, I love those.

Although, tell the boyfriend he’s mistaken - Purple is not very Nurgle.

Nice work, I’ve been thinking of getting back into modeling. Fun relaxing past time.

Jack Vance, isn’t it? “The Killing Machine?”

I think it’s actually from “The Face”. AG is destroyed and Lens Larque gets an insurance settlement from one of Gersen’s companies. The model is not intended to be from the book; I just liked the name–Vance always has such great names. I did change the spelling just a tad.

Grin! I didn’t want to comment on the spelling, and you’re quite right, it is The Face. Love that series of books! Your model is much too sleek and snazzy and lovely and smooth – I adore the ring structure! – for the real Gargantyr, a rusty leaking old p.o.s. hauler! All of your work is magnificent, and I wish I had the time and inspiration and skill even to come close! (Also the storage and display space!)
