Rocky VI official trailer

Ahh, okay. Thanks, Cervaise.

Yup.

As much as I like to think of myself as somehow above emotional teen-boy fandom. . .I will roll with it if the spirit moves me, and I’m not too high-falutin to admit I like the Rocky movies because I like to go in there and get manipulated into rooting for the underdog by cheesy music and a man sweating in a grey hoody.

I also loved “First Blood” and thought “Judge Dredd” was pretty funny, too. It’s starting to dawn on me that I might be a Stallone fan. Oddly, I didn’t like Cop Land very much at all.

OK, at this point you just need to stop!

…or my Mom will shoot.

This is a win-win situation. Either it will be totally awesome or awesomely bad . . . either way, it’s going to be awesome!!

I blame myself for this. If I hadn’t been faffing about all these years and been serious about conquering the Earth, I could have prevented this abomination. (Not to mention Matrix: Revolutions and King Kong.)

I apologize to all of you.

I’ve heard the early buzz on the movie is that it will be pretty good. Maybe the best Rocky movie since the first one.

As I understand it, the movie is very aware of the age of Rocky, and it’s more about how you grow old and hang up the gloves, and how you may have a little more to offer even after your best years are behind you, than it is some uplifting story about an underdog who beats the odds to win the championship.

From this site:

Sounds like Rocky’s being taken advantage of, but the chance of seeing the limelight one more time overcomes his better judgement. Something like that. Played right, it could be a very good movie.

It would be nice if Stallone could end the Rocky franchise on a high note. The crappy movies since the original have caused a lot of people to forget that the original “Rocky” was a great film.

Mason “The Line” Dixon? :smack:

I saw the trailer at the theater the other day and everyone around me groaned while I said “ooh, Rocky! I’m so there!”

I’m pretty nostalgic for 80’s movie series. I’ll be seeing this.

But it might end up in my Netflix Pity Party Queue For Movies No One Will See With Me.

The name tested much better than the second choice: Mason “Peach preserves” Jarr.

I barely remember the Rocky films, but I would just like to pimp for the comedy, Oscar. It’s one of my personal favorite comedies (along with Young Frankenstein, The Freshman, and Big Trouble in Little China.)

I’m with you, Sam. There was a post maybe here or elswhere making light of the fact that Rocky best picture in 76 over “Network”, “All the President’s Men”, and “Taxi Driver”. The first Rocky was a truly spectacular film. It’s a shame that all the crappy sequels have kind of tarnished the legacy.

I’d probably have thrown my vote to Taxi Driver, but it’d be a tough decision. I’m kind of curious how they’ll pull this off, given his age. Of course it does make him as big an underdog, if not bigger, than the original.

It is sad that Mickey won’t be in the movie, as he gave us memorable lines like
“you can’t win, Rock”,
“He’ll knock ya into tomorrow, Rock”
and “You’re gonna eat lightnin’, you’re gonna crap thunder.”

You can’t diss Rocky, though. Stallone made a unique film which he wrote and starred in, with only a few formulaic roles to his credit at the time (ie., Lords of Flatbush).

He recognized his limitations in First Blood by not speaking for the majority of the film, and created an interesting and lucrative career for himself.

Being a Philly guy, I feel protective of Rocky, as if he were an actual person. I still find it amazing that he was able to run the equivalent of a marathon through the entire city while training in the first film (sarcasm alert).
