This is the best pitcher in the NL. Really? This guy who served up fat Christmas present-like pitches like a 12 year old girl to the best hitters in the AL? Where the hell did the “Rocket” go? In one inning he gave up a single, double, triple AND two homeruns. He just let the American League post a 6 run first inning!! Congrats oh great and mighty Clemens on single handedly (barring a miracle) losing the All Star game in one inning.
He’s the greatest pitcher since World War II…show a little respect.
And actually, he’s probably only the third or fourth best starter in the NL this year - Ben Sheets and Jason Schmidt are both doing better. But neither has the cachet of Roger Clemens.
I can’t really blame him. After that miserable, horrible, pathetic, slaughtering of the National Anthem that spontanteously caused an entirely new dimension of suckitude to come into existence in order to contain the sheer maginitude of suck introduced into the universe, I was having trouble figuring out a reason to keep breathing, let alone how hard it must have been to hit the strike zone.
What in the fuck was that supposed to be. I have heard the Anthem done badly before, but that idiot bitch actually caused physical pain.
I rang Mummy when Randy Johnson came in in the 3rd, as she adores him, and I could hear her fumbling in the background, getting the tele sorted out, then this lovely little old lady (75 tomorrow) said, ‘Bloody hell!’ so I knew she’d seen the score…no worries, my dislike of Roger Clemens didn’t start this evening; it goes back to 1986.
Is it just me, or did the lady moaning the National Anthem say, ‘O’er the lamparts we watched’?
Was ‘O Canada’ performed? They always snick that one off the transmission…
Heh, maybe the chance to throw right at Piazza’s head and not get tossed was just too tempting.
Anyway, I don’t what that first inning was all about, but Clemens has won ten games for an Astros team that seems to have great trouble providing run support, and has an ERA in the 2.5 range. Also note that three of the runs in the first all-star inning are unearned, due to an error by Jeff Kent.
Clemens sucks? Hey, you go up there at age 40+ and pitch to the AL’s best, if you think its so fucking easy.
He’s said repeatedly to the press, as recently as yesterday, that the main reason he’s playing at all is that he can drive home after a game and see his kids. Part of his deal is that he doesn’t have to go on the road if his spot in the rotation won;t come up during the trip.
Hey, anything can happen I guess, but I personally doubt you’ll see him jumping to another team at this point.
A lady called Fantasia who won something on ‘American Idol’ (I think that is a show, forgive me; I don’t look at much tele outside of sport and my vids!)
On mlb.com they called hers ‘a stirring, emotional rendition of the U.S. national anthem.’
Hmmm…also sez here someone did sing ‘O Canada,’ a man called Gord Downie. Why do they always snip off ‘O Canada’ even on ordinary games? Do the Canadian transmissions snip ‘The Star Spangled Banner’? I’m honestly curious!
If they asked me, which they never do, if they must sing something about America in the 7th inning, I would rather they did ‘America the Beautiful.’ When they do the other, I keep expecting the Flyers to show up…
