Roger Stone arrested in early morning FBI raid!

Shit just got really real.

Who’s Roger Stone? I don’t even know him.

He’s pretty much the biggest asshole of the 20th/21st centuries, as far as American politics is concerned. He’s a cretin with no redeeming qualities at all. He makes both Nixon and Trump look like well-adjusted members of society.

Seriously, just look at this fuckstick:

This is an extremely minor detail in this story, but it amuses me so I want to put it out there… Roger Stone is Ochocinco’s neighbor.

Also I think Ludovic’s post was predicting Trump’s response to this news.

I’m pretty sure that Ludovic is parroting what Trump is going to end up saying. But the truth is it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. He has a freaking tattoo of Nixon’s face in the middle of his back, for crying out loud.

:smack:

Who’s Ochincinco?

A football player who’s not real good at Spanishing. His number was 85.

Which doesn’t really answer the question, because “asshole cretin with no redeeming qualities gets arrested” is a dog-bites-man non-story. The more meaningful answer is that he’s a Republican political consultant who specializes in opposition research, and an advisor to President Trump.

It’s clear that you didn’t even look at the pictures of Roger Stone that I linked to.

His indictment was not a question of “if,” but one of “when.”

Chad Johnson, former NFL wide receiver (mostly for the Bengals). He did, in fact, legally change his name to Chad Ochocinco for a time.

This is not in any way meant to defend irredeemable ratfucker Roger Stone, but why the early morning raid? Don’t they usually let people like Stone negotiate a time to turn themselves in? I wonder if they had reason to believe he was about to flee.

Maybe there’s evidence in his house they wanted to collect before he had a chance to destroy it.

Yeah, in general the early morning stuff is to provide surprise and disorientation on the part of the target should the FBI believe there’s evidence in the property that may be destroyed/hidden/moved should more notice be provided. Given that one of the things they’re after him for is obstruction, it shouldn’t be a surprise that they don’t want him to have time.

Stone is, without a doubt, one of the worst purveyors of ‘team-based’ politics where winning, regardless of method or cost, is the goal. If burning the country to the ground meant his team won, he’d do it.

Another thing that amuses me… this was a story on CNN yesterday:
As Stone waits for Mueller, he’s back to going out for pizza on Fridays

Like literally yesterday.

I don’t think he was a huge flight risk, simply being too high-profile. I’d assume it’s either this (no additional chance to destroy evidence or “get a story straight”) or possibly being done for optics as a way to shake up others who know the nets might be coming. Showing that “white-collar niceties” aren’t being observed may incite some others to try to cooperate preemptively.

Could be flight risk, or could be that they didn’t want to give him an opportunity to warn or to communicate with other suspects/defendants/Individuals prior to being taken into custody.

Yeah, this, too. Could definitely be a message. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Stone has been reasonably close to Trump for years, yes? Could very well be a sign of how close to the President (and, maybe more importantly, his family) the investigation has come. Don’t know if Stone counts as Trump’s “inner circle” but I think he’s awfully close to it.
