Are a fruitless web search, I ask the 'Dope-Which album is it on?
Thanks,
CP
After a fruitless web search, dang it.
Off the top of my head, I’m 99.99% certain the Stones never released a version of “Smoke Stack Lightning.” Could you possibly be thinking of the Animals’ version?
Or you could be thinking of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s version off their “1991” album.
Wikipedia mentions that the Stones did a cover.
“The song has been covered numerous times by various artists including The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, The Animals, The Grateful Dead,Bob Dylan, The Who, The Electric Prunes, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Soundgarden, Quicksilver Messenger Service and George Thorogood.”
While I’ve got you here, when did Bob Dylan do it?
The Wikipedia list must include live performances. Dylan has never released a version either AFAIK, even on the “Bootleg Series,” but he did perform it on a radio show back in 1962.
Rats.
Thanks!
According to The Complete Works, the song was in their setlist in 1963.
And Johnny B. Goode.
