Rome on HBO: The second season (possible spoilers)

What do we know about Rome II on HBO? I’ve not been able to find out anything about it: start date, prequel or sequel, etc? I searced around on the HBO site to no avail…

Anyone got the scoop? If it’s a sequel, I hope the writers find some way to let Niobe survive that fall. I’ll promise not to roll my eyes at whatever plot device they use-- just bring her back!

I’ve been watching a few of the re-runs from season I. Damn, that was one fine show. I had forgotten just how good it was!

Agreed.

The Wikipedia article has some information about a potential second season, indicating a release date of January 2007. I hope that is accurate.

I also heard that it will start airing in January. I also heard that the show won’t continue past the second season, partly because of the expense and partly because the ratings are only so-so. Like you, I loved the show.

Wow, I’m a huge fan of Wikipedia and didn’t even think to look there!

I was hoping it would start up right after Deadwood, but I guess not. Well, better late than never. Salve!

Does anyone know why HBO is so stingy with repeats? Sautrday at 9pm is the only time they replay it. Hence I miss it a lot.
Every other recent HBO series gets replayed to death. Even Oz is on like 3 times a week.
For awhile I swear The Wire was being replayed so much that one night was season 2 the next night was season 3.

Rumor has it that Deadwood was canned because HBO has/had such high hopes for Rome and both shows were too expensive to do.

That’s pretty much what I have heard as well. We get 10 more episodes of Rome, and that’s it. Pity, but it will make a nice box set for next Christmas.

Next Christmas? Like you can wait? My season one set is already on the way from Amazon.

Next Christmas, my foul-mouthed gladiator-in-training’s stinky bum!

Well, I hear that Brutus dies, Marc Antony gets it on with Cleopatra, and Octavian gets to be emperor, but I don’t have a cite.

Don’t you have HBO On Demand?

My on demand doesn’t work… and isn’t there a charge for on demand?
