The Southern Republican Leadership Conference conducted a straw poll of who it thought the 2012 nominee would be. The results were:
Mitt Romney - 439 votes
Ron Paul - 438 votes
Sarah Palin - 330 votes
Newt Gingrich - 321 votes
A total 1806 ballots were submitted during the conference.
The results are obviously not binding but I think it shows some indication of what the party is thinking.
The fact that Paul placed highly gives me hope; while I think he’s fundamentally wrong on many policies, I believe he’s honest (for a politician) and willing to actually work at governance. The other three? Urgh…
But really – I tend to think that whoever the 2012 nominee will be, s/he isn’t on that list (nor the extended ballot, either). Although I do have to admit that I’d never heard of Gary Johnson before…
I choose Palin. Oh wait, you mean for president.
Romney is an non-Christian, socialist, who flip-flopped on abortion and gays.
Paul is 100 years old.
They both have no chance.
