Question: assume Trump gets the nomination then is beaten by Biden. Is this Ron’s one shot, or can he get another try in four years if Trump dies/goes to prison/ flees the country in the meantime after a defeat?
Biden is living proof that there is always another shot.
Hell, Mayor Pete could run in 2052 and still be younger than Biden is now, I think.
Or 2056. Or 2060.
“I don’t know what goes into paying hush money to a porn star to secure silence over some type of alleged affair,” DeSantis said as laughter broke out at a news conference in Panama City, Florida. “I just, I can’t speak to that.”
DeSantis added: “I’ve got real issues to deal with here in the state of Florida.”
Trump Responds in a totally Trumpy way:
“Ron DeSanctimonious will probably find out about FALSE ACCUSATIONS & FAKE STORIES sometime in the future, as he gets older, wiser, and better known, when he’s unfairly and illegally attacked by a woman, even classmates that are ‘underage’ (or possibly a man!). I’m sure he will want to fight these misfits just like I do!” Trump wrote.
Trump also shared a photo that suggested DeSantis had behaved inappropriately with teenage girls while teaching history in Georgia in his early 20s
That is so Trumpian.
Now there’s a mental image I didn’t need…
Meatball should try a strategy where he professes a bit of pity for trump. How it’s too bad he’s slipping mentally, and also throw in some jabs about how Fred Trump made him the man he is. Get personal like he does and quit babying him.
Trump has a death grip on enough of the GOP base that this is 100% a death wish.
Disney doesn’t seem to care about DeSantis’ ravings and new board. It seems they think they can outlast him. And they’re almost certainly right… uhhh… correct.
Well he needs to do it at some point.
Although, probably he’s waiting to see if one of the indictments will take Trump down for him.
This is probably the case for most of the GOP “leadership”: publicly support Trump, while privately hoping someone with a spine can do what they are unable to.
Someone needs to, but it won’t be anyone who hopes to win in 2024.
Can DeSantis escape … PuddingGate!?!
Looks like Disney may have outsmarted DeSantis:
Especially cutting is that Disney retains explicit control of its characters, rendering it illegal for the new district board members or DeSantis to dress up as Goofy or Mickey.
I disagree- people haven’t voted based on the economy since the 20th century. Right now it’s all about tribalism. For Republican voters, it’s “does this guy want to hurt the people I don’t like?”
100%. “How strong is this candidate with owning the libs? That’s what matters most!” Why else would chumps like TFG and DeSantis be so popular?
Speak for yourself. Anecdotally, when I worked in The Villages, the number #1 political issue talked about in the lobby room was the economy. The only issue that overtook the economy in my experience was the 2020 pandemic, which was a senior citizen killer and had major economic impacts anyways. (And maybe healthcare, but I worked in healthcare so it’s hard to gauge how much of that was due to it being a top concern versus setting.)
Look at this poll from earlier this month (n=1,452),
Respondents were also asked what they think is the most important problem facing Florida, to which 25% said affordable housing. The next highest response is the economy, jobs, and inflation with 17%, followed by education at 12%, immigration at 10%, and gun policy with 7%.

Of the 1,452 registered voters who completed surveys, 453 were completed via telephone and 999 online.
Compare with this poll from right before the 2022 midterms.

There’s what they say, and how they actually vote. Lots of Republican voters will go for the guy (and it’s almost always a guy) who smites their self-perceived enemies, and not the candidate who will actually help them. GOP blue-collar voters have been voting against their own economic interests for decades now.
Which is why exit polls are so valuable - I edited in CNN’s midterm exit polls which hit that right on the head. The most important issue, overall, was inflation.
When voting for governor last November, 56% of the sample said Trump wasn’t a factor and 44% of voters said Biden wasn’t a factor. So it’s not pure tribalism.
43% of respondents thought the economy was poor, and 90% of those voted for DeSantis. Of the 20% who thought the economy was good, 87% voted for Crist. It’s very unlikely those DeSantis voters were outright lying to pollsters and willfully vote against their own economic interests, because tribalism.

Also note that we’re in a reality now where most republicans will always perceive the economy as doing poorly under a Democrat president, no matter what.
They’ll be convinced that crime has gotten worse too.
It’s partly due to the popularity of channels like FOX, that straight up lie, but also because the MSM doesn’t really push back.
So, unless the economy were to genuinely tank, I don’t see it having much effect on the next election.
