Ron DeSantis 2024 (Campaign suspended on January 21, 2024)

Washington Examiner leaves a lot out of its story, “And just like that, now DeSantis is a fascist.” Like how he uses his bully pulpit to try and destroy anyone who disagrees with him.

Well, after all, Freedom IS Slavery.

And as O’Brien pointed out:

You know the Party slogan: “Freedom is Slavery.” Has it ever occurred to you that it is reversible? Slavery is freedom. Alone—free—the human being is always defeated. It must be so, because every human being is doomed to die, which is the greatest of all failures. But if he can make complete, utter submission, if he can escape from his identity, if he can merge himself in the Party so that he is the Party, then he is all-powerful and immortal.

Or in a slightly different context, the slave is free ‘cause ol’ Massa will provide everything he needs. Including what to think.

Either one of those interpretations would be cheerfully embraced by ol’ Ron.

And, no doubt, incorporated into Florida elementary-school curricula.

You do notice, that is the mentality of the religious fundamentalist vis-a-vis their deity-of-choice. Denying yourself and totally subsuming to the divine will is what will deliver you. God will provide, and what is good and right is what God says it is because it is he who says it is. So of course people with that view of life will rally to these sorts of political leaders.

Charlie Crist. That is all.

True enough–and it was ever so. The difference these days is the possibility of living in a fact-free zone, in which everything you hear or read and everyone you interact with reinforces whatever mythology you’ve chosen to believe in–that Democrats are literally demons, or that Ron DeSantis is a decent human being, or what-have-you.

If DeSantis becomes VP, the president’s first act should be to hire a food taster.

DeSantis celebrates as most of his school board candidates win their Florida…

Mine lost!

Which is actually kind of unfortunate because we were classmates and he’s an upstanding dude.

Grrrrr.

Looks like more Ronny D hijinks…

I am hoping Gavin Newsom soon announces sending Florida some of our excess MAGAts.

I’m a Floridian and moderate democrat. I was actually happy when he won the governorship over Andrew Gillum (something about that guy just did not smell right, and given what has happened since the election it would have been a disaster for democrats).

That said, I’ve come to loathe DeSantis. Not so much for his policies, but his retaliatory behavior against anyone who disagrees with him. He’s worse than Trump, IMHO.

I would just be happy to have a President who realized that he/she represents the whole country, even if they lean to the right or left. But they all pander to the base that has gotten them elected. Even in FL where races have been tight, the swing voters have not had much of an impact since Obama, when voter turnout really saw a bump.

I voted for Putnam in the 2018 primary. Who knows if he would have turned out better or worse. I remember he faced some criticism for incompetence regarding concealed carry licenses, which really didn’t look good in the wake of the Parkland shooting. I thought he was still a better candidate than DeSantis, who was just riding the Trump wave. Even then DeSantis was glowing with national ambition. I thought he wanted to be tapped for Secretary of State or something. At least Putnam gave the impression that he was primarily concerned with Florida.

He probably thinks they’ll get jobs picking grapes.

All part of the project of privatizing education. It’s humming along quite satisfactorily, it would seem.

And what’s this about the people being deposited (literally!) on Kamala Harris’ doorstep?

Unfortunately, that was my jerkwad Governor, Greg Abbott, who seems to be in some sort competition with DeSantis over who can ship the most migrants to a location that will “own the libs.”

I don’t know that there is much the Democrats can do to counter such behavior. My suggestion is to make a commercial where some of those immigrants thank those governors for providing safe passage north, and encourage more immigrants to head to FL and TX, suggesting they’ll get the same treatment, and air it in those states. Can’t stop them from doing this again, but maybe rub their faces in it.

Democrats could cripple a potential DeSantis 2024 run by defeating his gubernatorial campaign this November. They’re betting on former Republican-turned-Independent-turned-Democrat ex-Governor Charlie Crist. Trump seems to have convinced his base that he’s not a loser despite losing, but I don’t see DeSantis pulling that off.

My sister and brother in law have said that they will sometime move to Florida. So there’s two more Democratic voters coming Florida’s way. You know, for what it’s worth.
