Rosebud! Guess the Fictional Character by their Last Words (obvious spoilers)
56. “Write the story, Steve. Tell the truth.” (I just watched this tonight.)
We’ve had a lot more entries than answers, so I’ll give this one away, since it’s relatively obscure. It’s Katharine Hepburn in Keeper of the Flame.

How about…

“Corn Nuts!”<snip>
Heather Chandler (the blonde Heather) from “Heathers.”
1. Such is life
Well, the obvious one would be Ned Kelly, but I’m hesitating on account of his non-fictional nature…

Have to bump this because #87 just hit me like a ton of bricks:

“I am still King.” - Thagdal, as the waters of the Med Basin flood close over his head

:smack:

(the smackie’s for me, because I quoted another line from the xact same series without getting this in the meantime)

Ah, but there have been several movies based on his life (and death)
94 “beware the eyes of the dragon”
King Roland, The Eyes of the Dragon, Stephen King.

#96: Moonlight Graham, “Field of Dreams”

#97 “Forgive me for my impertinence sir, but even though we had never before met I always considered you as a father to me.”

Correct ! In fact, it was your mention of the series that reminded me of Thagdal’s death.

Quellek the Thermian from Galaxy Quest!

Heh. I really wanted to use “But we’ve yielded!” (Celadyr of Afaliah before getting gunned down) but it doesn’t really fit since it turns out the zappers were only set to stun.

Nice last line tho
1. “Futility is freedom!”

This is fun!

From memory, Nicolai Leng from a Bruce Sterling short story…

But I recently sold most of my SF, so… Google sez— BRB.

OK, it seems I have the name right, and The story’s Twenty Evocations.

The Knight from #42 is Bors. “Go on, Bors, chop his head off.” FM
Number, ummm.. #98, unless i’ve been scooped during research –

“But it still hurts!”

Hint by way of previous line:

That’s bullshit, you’re a white suburban punk, just like me.

Ding! Ding! DING!! We have a winnah! (I love this board!)

I started from memory also, and had to look up Bruce (“Oh my freaking Gawd his laundry list could be the best thing I read this year”) Sterling on Wiki to confirm the character name.

[hijack]Twenty Evocations really stays with me over the years. Although it’s not “last words”, I vividly remember reading the “chapter” where someone is trying to ransom Leng’s childhood teacher - an AI program. “Why do you think an AI has any abstract value?” Leng asks the kidnapper.

“Because I am one,” the kidnapper replies.

Wow. [/hijack]

In post#23:
18ish: “…I thought we were friends to the end!”

Chucky the evil doll in, what’s that series of evil doll movies?

Oh yeah. Childs Play. The original one.
84: “Come back, you fools! Dogs aren’t dangerous! Come back and fight!” (another one that may or may not be actual last words in life, but last words before an essentially hopeless situation).
General Woundwort, from Watership Down.

98, I think:

“Choke on 'em! **Choke **on 'em!

It isn’t the officer from Day of the Dead is it? I have that on tape from a coworker, but I’ve not had a chance to watch it all yet.

(New Orleans detective)Your going to burn for this boy!

(Mickey Rourke)Oh yes I’m going to burn alright.(Not verbatim)
Yep, that was him.

Funny thing about that flick…ol’ Cap’n Rhodes is a thoroughgoing scumbag all through the action, but he meets his demise with real class, using his last breath to roar out a man’s defiance at his unworthy vanquishers.
I think this is essentially the same ending as for Shodan’s post (#80 - Angel Heart), but I think the character is actually *Harry * Angel, not Johnny Angel
