Rossignal ski graphics hit a new low

Great, a ski graphic picturing a woman getting her throat cut.

The video has been removed, but trust me, it was disturbing to see a rep from a ski company talking about the woman’s blood dripping down the sidewalls. How this guy (and whoever approved the graphics) didn’t get that this was patently offensive is beyond me. A woman getting her throat cut, that spells good skiing!

Some backstory, the previous graphics on another version of this ski had the sillouette of a naked woman. Apparently this caused some concerns so the company, in it’s infinite wisdom, decided that violence was much better than sex.

I’m patiently waiting to hear the Rossi response. Unless it is a major reversal, I can be sure that I won’t be buying any Rossi gear anytime soon. The ski is clearly aimed at young male skiers, but hopefully even they can see how awful this is. Maybe not, maybe Rossi knows their market, but if that is their choice they won’t be seeing any of my money.

And to think, backcountry skiing used to be an escape from the trials and tribulations of modern life…

Well, that was quick, and correct. I’m glad Rossi decided to replace the graphic, they did the right thing. I’m still not sure how it got approved, but I’m happy to see the company removing the graphic.

Oh well, nothing to see here. Move along.

Wow. Talk about “edgy”!.

Sheesh, whoever came up with that one is a real idiot.

That’s a new low even for notoriously ridiculous ski/snowborad gear marketers. I refused to buy the earlier year’s version of my board because: 1) it was pink and 2) it had a naked cheesecake-style fairy woman on it. Why do they think most woman want a cheesy naked woman on her snowboard? Why do they think girl’s boards have to have flowers or be in pastels? (My board has flowers on it. But it also has flames and a dragonfly. So not so bad.) I thought designs were getting better but apparently they’ve just found another sort of offensiveness.

I saw nothing. What am I missing? I can’t say this is too suprising. Everything related to the ski industry marketing machine has been going into the shitter and picking up speed every year.

I blame the snowboarders! And Mountain Dew.

Is this some sort of weird joke? The graphic doesn’t look anything like a woman to me, just an abstract picture.

It’s a little grainy since it is taken from a video but it’s pretty obvious to me. It was beyond a doubt in the video, since that’s exactly how the rep described it in bloody detail.

The top of the silver section is a woman’s face in sillouette, tilted straight up. Her nose is in the center, eyes to the right, mouth to the left. As you trail down to the left the slashes are Freddy’s finger/blades, slashing her throat.

Personally, I like the K2 women’s tele ski graphics, a little flowery but pretty cute and still kick ass.

The earlier picture just sort of looked like a circle with a lump on one side, instead of a face. Now I see that it is in fact a really stupid idea.

At first I wondering, is this more offensive than, say, the actual 'Nightmare On Elm St." movies that inspired it?

On further reflection, I see that at least the flicks sort of say that the murder is wrong (by fighting Freddy), and there really isn’t room for such subtle context on a ski.

Huh.

And all this time I thought it was a smudge.

Guess that’s why I don’t ski.
