Rula Lenska

Do you remember the Rula Lenska commercials for Albert VO5? What do you think Rula Lenska is doing now? What do you think she was doing then? Who the heck was she?

“Friends are visiting from Europe . . .” I loved those ads—she was totally havcing us Yanks on, and “got the joke.” Here’s some info on her.

Whodathunk she was that young? I figured her to be much older. And I had no idea she did anything but VO5 commercials. Huh.

(flashes back to adolescence) Rula Lenska!? Phwoaar. And she was in Doctor Who and Space:1999 - what a woman!

How was she having Yanks on, Eve? And what joke was it that she got?

Fiver I might be wrong but I suspect it was a reference to other commercial for the same shampoo being done (in UK at least) by Jennifer Anniston.

But wasn’t Rula Lenska forgotten in the UK - except by Steve Wright obviously - long before Jennifer Anniston had even been heard of on either side of the Atlantic ?
Didn’t she used to go out with Dennis Waterman ? That’s Rula rather than Jennifer. Again, obviously.

I remember everyone who was ever in Doctor Who or Space:1999. But I particularly remember redheads with long legs. Does this make me a bad person? I don’t care.

“I keep wondering who is Rula Lenska, and what is she up to these days?”

Those commercials were in the '70s when Jennifer Aniston was just a kid!

Just one of those women I could never fancy, not even as an adolescent (e.g. when paint drying made me horny) watching ‘Rock Follies’ – quite unreasonably, I always thought she had a hard, ‘smokers’ kind of face … Didn’t do herself any favours marrying the half-wit Waterman, either <haughty sniff>

The way I remember it, in about 1980 there were these commercials on American TV for Alberto VO5 with Rula Lenska. She was flouncing off a plane saying something about how her fans demanded she look good. The joke was that no one in the US had any idea who she was - she was strictly a UK star. There was even a radio station in San Francisco - KSAN - that pretended to send an investigative team to England to find out who the heck she was.
