Rules on sig repitition?

So I’m just posting along, minding my own business, and this other guy gives me a load of whale dreck about how its against the rules to have my sig on my post more than once per thread?

Huh? Can’t see it anywhere on the FAQ’s, so whats the deal?

I’m only answering because sometimes it takes Moderators a few days to get around to it. I speak with no authority.

But, on more than one occasion, a Moderator, probably Arnold Winkelried, has requested that posters limit their signatures to four lines, and that they limit the use to either once per thread, or once per page (50 posts), I forget which. But, I don’t think there’s a strict board policy on this, or else it would have been added to the FAQ.

And I have no idea what to search for to find it this.

Here’s a thread on sig repetition.

Same disclaimer as Achernar.

First, I think in GD posting your sig more than once detracts from what you are saying (though not so much in that thread, you guys seem to be walking a fine line between debating and sticking out your tongues).
But, more importantly to the board, if several posters with high post counts like yours were to decide to change your sigs at the same time, it would be a significant(I know  ) load on the server if they all had their sigs in almost every post.
Maybe this effect would be lessened by the fact that your sig is one line, though you must have changed it, since milroyj quotes a line from you which doesn’t appear in any of your posts.
And, btw:

Linkety-link.

The general guide line seems to be once per thread. Using sigs does add load on the server, making the board slower.

Another thing that I have noticed in recent months is a general decline in the usage of sigs (or so it appears to me). I wonder whether that is indeed the case. Does anyone have figures ?

New addition to the “Guidelines on posting” FAQ

I like it. Thank you!

Good policy, but, nitpick, “…deemed too long…” Unlike us, of course, you can edit your own post!

:o ¡Muchas Gracias!

elucidator, in your profile you can turn off having to look at any sigs. I use it perhaps because I think it makes page viewing faster for me.

handy, I don’t think this was the problem.

And I thank you too, Arnold. Even though I have a sig, I never use it. Also, I’ve turned off sigs, so I don’t have to see them. It’s a very very very nice feature of this board.

Thanks again, Arnold and all you moddies out there.
