Rumsfeld to Resign

Damn, Wiki is fast.

Has there ever been a nomination by the Bush or any administration without a tainted past?

I think this puts in sharp relief how deluded Bush was. Rummy’s going because of yesterday’s results, and any claims that Bush made that decision prior to 11/07/06 are complete BS. If things hadn’t shifted so dramatically for the GOP yesterday, Rummy would still be around, simple as that.

From CNN 5 min ago, re: Rumsfeld’s Replacement:

"Breaking News- “Bush: New man will bring new ideas”

I guess nature Really Does abhor a vacuum…

Shit, really? Then what’s keeping George W. Bush’s head from imploding?

Eh, the decider may have decided a week ago, “Don, if Tuesday totally kicks our asses I’m going to need you to take the fall so I can try to ram through another tax cut or three for some of my buddies. Of course, if the guy at Diebold remembers to press the ‘Override’ button then you’re on forever”.

Send the motherfucker to Iraq. Let him live in the hell he created.

That’s pretty much what I thought when I heard about it, only I was thinking if he’d quit it a month ago my team might have won. I, too, have grown unhappy about the war the war is being conducted and I’ve felt that Rumsfeld was the one who was responsible. Too bad Bush didn’t recognize this fact and “allow” him to resign earlier.

Having said that, congratulations you guys! My side has won quite a bit the last few years and frankly, they’ve blown it. I don’t imagine I will like what will come about as a result of your victory, but what goes around comes around and now it’s your turn.

Again, congratulations–you’ve suffered long enough.

I say hog tie him and dump him off in Sadr City.

Ahem…about the way the war is being conducted…

Why is it I don’t find these things on preview and spot them instantly once they’re posted? :smack:

Meh, don’t worry about it, SA. It’s a common character trait.

Take the war in Iraq f’rinstance. It was plain to see the catastrophe that would result if the invasion went forward, but somehow, they couldn’t notice it until after they hit “Submit.”

It’s nice to see a gracious loser in a political thread. Thanks, SA.

Of all the yellow-coward craven chicken Republicans. . . this incompetent fool sends troops off to die in Iraq without sufficient body armor, without sufficient supplies, without even enough of them to do an almost impossible job-- cuts and runs because he is finally going to face a Congress that is going to ask him to account for three & a half years, [well actually six years] of mismanaging the Pentagon.

I don’t know why everyone is cheering.

To steal from an old joke…

Q: What do you call Donald Rumsfeld retiring?
A: A good start.

Democrats SHOULD be worried about this move. IMHO, if they remove Rummy, act all contrite and non-partisan and put a bunch of very popular, yet irresponsible, legislation forth over the next 2 years, they will have the democrats in 2008. I can see it now, “See America, we gave you what you wanted, the Dems had power, and they did nothing. You were duped, now vote for us again”. That is how I would play it.

GWB’s handlers are now saying, you are a lame duck. Pave the way for the GOP future. If they play it right, the sheeple will bleat with glee in 2008.

The democrats MUST try and do something with this situation. They must call for tougher ethics rules, campaign finance reform and other items that many of us complained about in the last 6 years. They must force Bush to veto multiple pieces of legislation. Make it look like he is hindering progress. Force Republicans into filibustering and then DONT invoke some damn “nuclear option”.

If the Democrats fail to be the leaders many of the electorate hope they will be, the backlash will be huge.

Exactly, and they goddamn well better keep their noses clean too. Any hint of corruption/scandal/bullshit and the Dems in Congress should scream bloody murder, to not look like they’re trying to cover up for one of their own.

A girl can dream, right? It’s my dirty little secret as a bleeding heart liberal that I never could stand Bill Clinton. I still have not forgiven him for letting his little head think for his big one. Yes, presidents throughout history, including several Republicans, have had mistresses/affairs that never impacted them politically, but Clinton KNEW they were gunning for him and would use ANYTHING. Fucker got a starry-eyed, loudmouthed girl to service him and it all blew up in his, and our, and the world’s, face. For such a smart guy, he did a really really stupid thing. GRRRRR.

DEMOS, KEEP YOUR PANTS ZIPPED AND YOUR HANDS OUT OF OTHER PEOPLE’S POCKETS! At least, while you’re in office.

Ahem…well, at least it’s nice to see we’re talking again.

And thank you for the kind words, Indyellen.

I’m kind of hoping for some pics of Christina Applegate with a politician in a compromising position: Applegategate.

I found it amusing that Rummy mentioned that the war in Iraq was so nuanced and complicated that most people as of yet don’t quite understand the whole complexity of the thing. But history will one day figure it out, and then all the credit will go to George W Bush, who obviously thinks at a level we mere mortals can only hope for.

Anyone else smell a Medal of Freedom?

I just absolutely delighted that Rumsfeld is gone.

Why aren’t you saying this is a backlash about the Republican failures?

The Republicans controlled Congress and the White House. And yet, they couldn’t get jack shit done but run up a huge debt and get us stuck in a very nasty war.

The Republicans don’t seem to realize that the country, is not whistling zip-pa-Dee-doo-da out their assholes. And guess what! Maybe, just fucking maybe, it is the fault of the people who have been in charge for the last six years. Maybe they have done a shitty job.
This wasn’t a throw the bums out election. Not one. NOT ONE FUCKING SITTING DEM got ousted. What the fuck do you think that could mean? Sure, fantasize now about everything being laid to blame on the Dems in two years, when the Republicans had a free ride for the last six.
