Run Arnold! RUN!

So Arnold is in.

How is he in any way qualified to be Governor of one of the largest economies in the world?

Does he have the advantage of having no further political aspirations and the ability to just tell it like it is?

Thoughts?

Looks like we started a duplicate thread.

What qualifications does he have? Well, he’s apparently a very astute businessman, he has a degree in international relations, he’s got tons of personal popularity, and he’s been active in California politics for years, including getting a child care law passed that no one expected to have happen.

He’s also very much a moderate. Most people think of Arnold, they think he’s going to be an ultra conservative. He’s not. He just got a child care law passed, he’s pro-gay rights, pro-choice, in favor of some gun control laws. So he may be a very good fit for California.

Thanks. Stuff I did not know about Arnie.

But can anyone dispute that we are in for a TON of cliched Arnoldisms?

All I’ve gathered so far is he’s fiscally consevative & socially liberal. So I like him already, but I want to learn more. His website is currently slammed & I don’t think there’s much reading to be had there yet anyway.

Agree with levdrakon. All I know about his politics so far is what he said at the press conference after the Tonight Show taping, but what he did say didn’t seem too bad. He didn’t seem opposed to increasing programs to help the disadvantaged, and struck me as along the same moderate-to-conservative vein that Richard Riordan tapped into. Which means, of course, the foaming-mouth radicals of the GOP will start tearing him down inside of a week…

I would have to say Arnold has AT LEAST as much qualifications as Jesse Ventura. Jesse didn’t do all THAT bad in office, did he? Remember, an actor once became governor of CA and then President of the US. Anything is possible in the good old USA. (Although I don’t think Arnold could ever be Pres. Don’t you have to be a natural born citizen to be Pres?)

Arnold could not become president unless somehow Austria became part of the U.S. when we weren’t looking.

Well we just never know what ol’ Yellowcake Bush will do next now do we?
:dubious:

Deservedly or not he’s got a minor league rep as a bit of a hound dog with the ladies. I’m sure the dems will be working overtime to dig up some dirt on him re this.

Only over my dead body …

Unfortunately, most of the voting public will only think how cool it would be to have a Terminator in public office.

As for the Dems digging up dirt, I don’t know if those tactics will work with him, considering he’s married into the Kennedys. I can’t understand why he’s going Republican, when his policies sound like moderate Dem.

Personally speaking, as a Californian, in order to get Gray Davis out of office I’d vote for the rotted, diseased corpse of a road-killed skunk.

I think the skunk would do a much better job than Davis, and it couldn’t possibly blow over 37 billion dollars in its term.

Yep, that Bush regime has their act down.

If you don’t like what is going on anywhere in the world, screw public opinion and the legal system and just march in and take what should have been rightfully yours to begin with. The trick is, don’t start with Poland - gee, didn’t anybody play the board game Risk?

By the way - if Arnold, or Gary Coleman, or Larry Flynt, or Angelyne is elected, it’ll be the Democrats turn to start a plan to impeach them.

That is the new American Way, isn’t it? Wrap an American flag around yourself and kick anyone’s ass you perceive to be an enemy…now a valid approach even if it is within your own country.

The Founding Fathers would be so proud.

Well hey, don’t let George hear you say that, he’s in desperate need of more moving targets to send to Iraq.

Not that it matter’s all that much to me since I’m on the other side of the country, but I assume the real Arnold is not the same as the characters he plays in the movies.

Besides, would you rather hear “I’ll be back” or “watchytalkinabout?” for the next few years?

Yes, but what are Rotted Diseased Corpse of a Road-killed Skunk’s policies on education reform?

Or congress actually passes the Sixty-first Amendment. (Hopefully the rest of Demolition Man won’t come to pass.)

I don’t think the governorship of a state with a $40 billion dollar deficit, a continuing energy crunch, an impending water crisis, a dysfunctional legislature, the world’s 6th largest economy (cite?), and a population of 35 million is where he should get his feet wet. Can’t he run for mayor or something, like Clint Eastwood?

I wonder if it’s a coincidence that I had a dream last night about Arnold as the Terminator going on a killing spree and shooting me in the back.

Is this a bad omen?

I’d probably have to read more about his stances on the issues, but he seems at least like a reasonable choice. Of course, I don’t live in California.
