Any opinions on the long-awaited, direct to DVD film debut by Bob Odenkirk & David Cross, otherwise known as HBO’s Mr. Show?
If you’re a fan of their Monty Python meets Kids in the Hall, while ingesting mushrooms brand of humor, this movie will become one of your cult classics.
It’s a movie version of a skit from their cancelled series, about a guy who becomes famous by constantly being arrested on a Cops type show called Fuzz
Andy Richter, David Foley & Sarah Silvermen steal the movie with their scene as Television executives. A Jack Black meets Mary Poppins song called “A Kick in the C*nt” is randomly thrown in the film, as are a few other bizaare plot diversions with Scott Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, R. Lee Emermy,
It’s humor is not for everyone, but any movie that starts with a 50’s style “Let’s go to the movies” type cartoon short, that gives “toilet” humor a new meaning, isn’t for the most refined among us.
Any other “Mr. Show” heads who have seen this overlooked masterpiece? Mop mania anyone? “The Mop that you use to clean Other Mops!”
I just got the 3rd season of Mr. Show on DVD and love it. I think Bob and David are hilarious. However, I’m scared of this movie. I haven’t seen it yet, but am afraid it will taint my image of them. Joe Dirt sucked and this sounds like it may be along the same lines.
If you’re a fan and expect it to be good, you won’t enjoy it.
If you’re a fan and expect it to suck ass, you will enjoy a few inspired funny bits that appear throughout the movie.
There will be plenty of exceptions to each of my three statements listed above.
I will always truly treasure having a copy of Mandy Patinkin’s performance of “Y’all are Brutalizing Me” no matter how bad the surrounding movie is. Ditto “Kick her in the Cunt”.
Meh. Most of the humor was jacked from Mr. Show episodes and there wasn’t enough new stuff to make it worthwhile (Mandy Patankin’s (sp?) YABM and “Ass Kicking Fat Kid” being noteable exceptions.
I preaty much agree with what everyone else has said; Overall, the movie is not that funny, but has lots of scenes that stand out. (Bob’s infomercail about the “Food Destroyer” literaly made me fall out of my chair laughing…God, I must have watched that scene 50 times)
But what do you expect from a film that was directed by STEVE Odenkirk…you may remember him as the guy behind “Enter the Fist” and all those crappy “Thumb” movies (Bat-thumb, Thumb-wars, etc.)
And smoke, Bob and David lost alot of creative control, and so were ultimately unsatisfied with the finished film. From what I heard, they didn’t even want to realese it, but they kept being asked about it by their fans so they felt like they had to release it.
Personally, I’m looking foward to “Hooray For America.” I saw it live in San Fran, and I really hope it gets brought to the big screen.
I thought Run Ronnie Run was amusing the first time I saw it. The second time it was hillarious, full of memorable sequences that make me smile every time I think about them. The movie was certainly funnier than the “Ronnie Dobbs: The Musical” skit on Mr. Show that it was clearly a padding out of.
Obviously, it’s possible to be a fan of Mr. Show and not find this movie a scream, as we’ve seen above, but the odds are against it. It’s well worth your while to rent it, and don’t let a bunch of negative nellies ruin it for you.
That little three-second loop that just keeps going and going and going…I damn near wet myself.
“Ass Kickin’ Fat Kid” was pretty cool…
Try as I might, however, these are the only two scenes I can clearly recall. I…think I enjoyed the movie, but considering the night we watched it, my memories may be less than reliable.
Oh, and I think whoever’s closest to Miller has to touch him.
