The Mr. Show DVD Appreciation Thread!

I got the DVDs from Amazon on Monday, and I’ve watched all 10 episodes already! The commentaries are funny, but they sometimes meander around. The “bonus materials” on disc 1 are good, and the “Incredible, Fantastical News Report” is on there, which is great because it includes “Blow Up The Moon” and “Lie Detector,” which are both great bits. What did you think of the greatest DVD release in the history of obscure comedy show DVD releases?

I like them, but some of my favorite stuff isn’t on there. Especially my favorite episode, the “lost episode.” I hope they’re planning on coming out with another set.

You’re right about the commentary; you really get the sense that these guys aren’t as funny off-the-cuff. But they do point out a lot of stuff that I didn’t notice before – like when 2+1-1 get their award at the Homage Awards.

One other connection I never made until I watched the DVDs: Tom Kenny on Mr. Show is the narrator for the Powerpuff Girls as well as a ton of other voices. Neat.

“Notice I didn’t say ‘T.V.’ because ‘T.V.’ is a nickname, and television is no friend of mine!”

I have the hots for Mary Lynn Rajskub. I talk to her friend online.

I bought it and I’m enjoying the heck out of it. I agree with the meandering commentaries. I really did want to know how they got Kaito in an episode; instead they joked about it and the topic was never revisited.

I haven’t picked it up yet, but I’m going to. When I moved from Ohio to Virginia in 2000, I stopped getting HBO, so I haven’t seen “Mr. Show” in ages.

Was the “Pit-Pat” sketch in Season 1? “My name is Pit-Pat, and I love you!”

2+1-1 Awwwwwwwww Yeaaaaaaaaah

I love David Cross. Bob’s funny, too.

This is one DVD I will be purchasing soon.

Thank God!

Time to go to amazon…

RAP! The Musical

I’ve been packing up to move over the last few days and loving this DVD set. Some of the things that are pretty cool:

Their commentary when they note that Jack Black played the Devil in Joke: The Musical for basically five bucks and a sandwich. Wonder what he got for the MTV Movie Awards?

Bob’s commentary on Saturday Night Live and the quality of the sets/costumes/makeup. I agree with him that it somehow takes away from the funny, or distracts the viewer from the funny that isn’t there. At one point David says something like:

I love that attitude. I think it’s great to see a couple of guys who lived a dream reminiscing on their first big shot.

Oh, and I also love the episodes themselves!

Yes, it is. another fine product from Globo-chem.

I bought the DVD at Best Buy the day it was released, and I think I’ve watched every episode at least a couple of times. I haven’t listened to all the commentaries yet, but I agree that the ones I’ve heard so far are not that funny.

Jay Johnston is gorgeous!

I haven’t looked at the DVD yet, although I bought it the day it came out. And that was based on only seeing a couple of episodes. Looking forward to finally watching it, should be a treat.
