Running digital distribution game sale/special thread

No chance. I’m past 250 and quickly heading for a million.

How are you doing in that weird Steam competition going on now?

I have 11 or 12 entries. I’m not really making any special effort to get as many tickets as possible - if it’s a game I own, I’ll do the objective, or if it’s a game that looks like it’s worth the sale price, I’ll buy that.

They’re doing another Indie Humble Bundle. You set your own price for 5 indie games and a portion of it goes to charity. The games are Braid, Osmos, Machinarium, Revenge of the Titans, and Cortex command. The first 3 are good, not sure about the last two.

If you are one of the people who choose to name your own price as 1 cent, please just go kill yourself.

Good old games (www.gog.com) is offering 30% - 50% off a whole lot of different games (around 300) till january 3rd.

Like the name says, most of the games are older but good. They’ve rigged them up to be totally DRM-free and to work on modern OSes. All the games are normally either 9.99 or 5.99 so even at only 30% off some of them are real steals.

It’s a great time to stock up on any classics you might have missed!

Soooo, I love the Bioware games I’ve played so far (KOTOR, ME I and II)…I’d be remiss not to pick up Baldur’s Gate and BG 2 from GOG, right?

Baldur’s gate 1 and 2 are both very good games, and totally worth $7 each imo. If you’re only going to get one of them the second one is better (and longer) but they are a series (in fact you can import your character from the first game into the second) and the first one is worthwhile too.

If you like RPGs and you have not played them you definitely owe it to yourself to give them a try. The only bad thing I can say about them is they are locked to some stupid low resolution (like 640x480 IIRC) which looks kind of bad on modern monitors, especially widescreen ones.

Damn. The resolution thing might be a problem since I have a widescreen. Thanks for the info though.

You can set your video card up to display it in a 640x480 pixel block in the middle of the screen - it’ll be small, but there will be no distortion.

There’s widescreen mod for games that use the Infinity engine so you can set the game to fit your monitor. Get it here.

Edit: There’s also a mod that allows you to transport BG1 over to the engine BG2 uses to combine both into one massive game.

Nevermind.

Planescape: Torment for $7! And Icewind Dale I and II! I’m doomed.

You guys should all go into sales! I don’t know when I’m going to get around to playing them, but with that mod, I’ll be buying them this evening. Thanks much (I think)!

Does anyone want to play either BG2 or Icewind Dale 2 multiplayer from the beginning? I’ve always wanted to try a D&D game with, you know, a party!

Huh. Sounds like I might be picking up Planescape: Torment and Master of Magic this evening.

The widescreen mod works for Planescape as well. It’s still a gorgeous game after all this time.

The massive steam holiday sale of doom has started.

Ok, I’ve got to step away from the credit card and game buying.

The widescreen mod works great for Torment, which I picked up along with BG I and II and Icewind Dale. Playing Torment right now, and the story is great, just like everyone said.

Then, of course, I see the “holiday sale of doom” come out on Steam yesterday. I snagged Fallout 3, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and the 2K catalog package. Yes, that’s right, the 2K catalog package. Now of course that means I rebought some things I already own (like Freedom Force, the Civ series, Pirates!), but I never played Bioshock I or II, nor Borderlands, nor Mafia I or II, all of which I’ve heard good to great things about. So what am I playing? Sid Meier’s Railroads! :stuck_out_tongue: Can’t get enough of that $2.49 Railroad Tycoon action!

Lots of stuff discounted on amazon download.

Wow. Lots of $5 games. ARMA2 CO for $13 is the best price I’ve seen. How does Amazon download work, can you download again in the future, or just once?
