Running digital distribution game sale/special thread

FAQ:

I’ve gotten 2 or 3 games from Amazon download, seems to work fine.

And yeah, Arma 2 combined ops for $13 is by far the cheapest I’ve seen it.

Thanks. What do you get when you download? A ZIP file with a setup.exe and associated files inside, or an ISO image, something else, or does it vary?

I’m actually not sure. The directory it stores stuff in is empty. I may have set it up to automatically delete the installer file after being installed, I don’t remember.

Some indie games on d2d. Trine for $2.50 is a steal.

Star Trek: Online is 2.50 at Amazon and includes 30-days free. If you’ve already tried the demo and need a little more of a sample before you decide, this is a pretty good deal. If you have the demo already, you don’t even need to download anything from amazon.

Steam has Deadspace for $6.80 and the Europa Universalis 3 games 80% off (including the complete pack for $4)

Gamersgate has the King Arthur Wargame/RPG for $5.

It’s been very quiet on the digital sales since the massive Christmas stuff, it’ll probably start picking up again now.

Anyone who is interested in Sims 3 but has yet to buy it, Steam is offering “The Ultimate Bundle”. The base game, three expansions, and two stuff packs–in short, everything released so far–for $90.

Steam sale on Sims 3 ends 3 Feb.

Over on gog.com, they’re holding a weekend sale on Apogee games, including Duke Nukem 3D.

Square-enix week on steam with different sales every day. Batman: AA is $7.50 today, and is easily worth it.

AI: War Fleet command is 50% off at $10, Final Fantasy XI Ultimate edition 50% off at $5, The Kings’ Crusade 70% off at $9, Square Enix complete pack with a whole lot of games for 88% off ($700 worth of games for $75).

Just Cause 2 is the daily sale. I highly recommend it, fun game. $7.50

Looks like Just Cause (original) is there for $3.75 too. Never played it.

Buying Portal 2 before the release will net you an extra copy of the regular Portal.

Yeah, I’d recommend just getting JC2 for $7.50. They made many improvements over the first game, giving it much more of the open-world feel. I wanted to like the first game, but kept running into things that caused me to move on. With JC2 you don’t have any of those hang-ups.

Yeah definitely buy 2 if you’re only going to buy one (you need vista/7 with a dx10 card, but it’s worth it). I just figured I’d mention the other sale too - I went ahead and bought JC since I liked JC2 and maybe the different missions will be interesting.

Civ 5 is $30 on steam and Civ 4 complete is $7.50 this weekend.

I picked up Arkham Asylum a couple days ago since I’d just gotten a new video card.

Cool game. Too bad it took me 20 minutes of jumping through Windows Live! updates to get into it. Because Microsoft apparently doesn’t know how to write an update that can go all at once. No, I need to start the game, login, agree to an update, be told to exit the game, accept a poorly-worded message asking me if I don’t want to not exit the game, watch the update run (but get NO confirmation that it was successful), start the game again, go through the same process again and again.

What the fuck? Don’t even give me a version number so I really don’ t know if I’m in an infinite loop.

Fuck you MS, fuck you hard.

That’s weird. While I have no fondness for windows live, people are always talking about having to update it, and I’ve never had to do that, after years of using it.

Good Ol’ Games is running a sale this weekend on some Strategy First titles: Jagged Alliance, Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games, Disciples: Sacred Lands, and Port Royale 2 - $5 each.

I still haven’t been able to play it because it says I can’t connecto to Windows Live right now.

All the tombraider games are 66-75% off today on steam. Including the really good coop game Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light for $5 and its DLC.
