Good Old Games is running a February Promo, where if you buy at least two games, you’ll get 10% off. Pretty lame as far as sales go. However, they very recently added Square Enix (which now owns Eidos) to their lineup and are slowly introducing the classic Eidos games. So far they’ve released Hitman: Code 47, Deus Ex GOTY, and Thief Gold. Sure, you can get the first two on Steam, but Thief Gold couldn’t be downloaded legally anywhere on the Internet until now.
Thief: The Dark Project was one of the first first-person sneaker games, where stealth is the primary focus of your character. You play a thief (natch!) going on missions, robbing the rich to give to no one else but yourself. On higher difficulties, not only do you have to steal more stuff, but you automatically lose if you kill anyone. Thief Gold is a later rerelease, with three additional missions.
If you want to get Heroes VI: Might and Magic, which is a solid 8/10 in my book by the way, enter 787exuv9g in the discount coupon field for a 50% discount at ubishop.com. Works for 5 copies and on every edition of the game as far as I can see.
(Not sure if it works on physical, but it did come through on both the standard digital edition and the Deluxe digital edition.)
It should come as no surprise that GOG.com has released Thief II: The Metal Age. If you pick it up together with Thief Gold, you’ll get a whole 10% off your purchase.
Baldur’s Gate series
Icewind Dale series
Planescape: Torment
Neverwinter Nights
D&D: Dragonshard
Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone
Temple of Elemental Evil - they’ll throw this one in for free if you buy any one of the other D&D games
I’ve already got the first three. Is Neverwinter Nights even worth picking up? I’ve heard some not-so-good things about it.
NWN was absolutely amazing… thanks to it’s user created content. Literally tens of thousands of adventures from classic PnP dungeon romps (like Temple of elemental evil, Keep on the borderlands, Pool of radiance, against the giants, Tomb of Horrors, Undermountain, etc, etc) to near professional level original works that are entirely worth the price of admission, even back in the day.
The main campaign itself isn’t too bad either, really. But it’s definitely not Bioware’s best. And was specially not well received being on the released on the heels of Baldur’s Gate 2.
Neverwinter Nights 2 is also very good, the included expansion “Mask of the betrayer” has a story of such high caliber that I’d say it was nearly on par with some of the greats like planescape torment.
But the user created content here is more limited.
Aww, is NWN2 not on the list?
If anyone picks up the original NWN and wants to do some multi-player, hit me up on Steam! Haven’t done that in AGES, but wouldn’t mind dungeon delving again.
Payday: the Heist - $4.99
Witcher 2: AoK - $14.99
Darkness II - $24.99
Assassin’s Creed 2 Deluxe Edition - $4.99
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood - $7.49
Saints Row III - $24.99
Homefront - $7.49
Trine - $1.75
Company of Heroes: GoTY - $5.00
From Dust - $4.94
Red Faction: Guerrilla - $5.00
And a bunch of other stuff through the 29th. You’ll have to check yourself if something activates on Steam if that’s important to you. And, seriously, get Trine for $1.75 if you don’t have it.
Edit: Steam activated games on the FtF sale seem to be:
Alan Wake
Darkness II
Payday: The Heist
Saint’s Row The Third
Warhammer 40K Space Marine
Red Faction Armageddon
Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War II Retribution Complete Pack
Cool, I’ve been waiting for $5 payday. Heard it’s coop in a l4d style, so it’d be worth a try for few bucks. I’ll get some games going.
Anyone know if anyone plays the multiplayer in AC:Brotherhood? They bought up/killed outerlight just to be able to rip off their multiplayer modes without being sued, so they might be decent.
I personally loved the NWN story (original and two expansions, second more than the first), but I agree that the user-created “modules” had a lot of fantastic offerings. I remember the “Penultima” series as being really superb.
