Not a sale but this seems as good a place to post something Steam related
Instructions for setting a drive besides C: as your default install location within the Steam client itself. Currently I use the 3rd party “Steam Mover” program but that’s not foolproof as some games won’t move properly leaving you with a bit of a headache.
I guess the fact that I don’t have the slightest idea why you’d want to install them any place other than C: or the Steam folder proves how little I know about computers.
Some people just have their OS (and C: drive) on a small partition or dedicated drive, and have another partition where they keep all their large files (such as games).
When you have a problem (like I do - no self-control during Steam sales), you end up with a LOT of games. I have a dedicated hard drive for games only. It is a 1 TB drive with all of 125 GB of free space. My C: drive has the OS, browser and that’s about it.
People with SSDs in their systems might want to install their latest game to the SSD so it loads faster.
About time Steam got around to this. Sorry to continue the hijack.
Swedish Indie Pack is 85% off on Steam today. Looks like it has a few games that people recommend in it : Lead and Gold, Bob Came in Pieces, The Ball and several more.
Not a sale per se, but the pre-order bonus for the new Xcom is heading towards the final marker on Steam.
To explain better (or at all). They have set three targets for the number of pre-orders. As the pre-orders pass each target an extra bonus is applied. The first was a squad uniform editor, to customise the colours/patterns and insignia of each of your troops (nice little touch - I know I’ll use it). Second tier was a bunch of TF2 hats (meh). If it reaches the tier 3 marker all pre-orders get a free copy of CIV 5, If you already have it it’ll be classed as a gift copy to give to a steam friend.
Age of Fear: the Undead King is a free download from GMG today. Expect slow and laggy servers and delayed response e-mails as people usually swamp these things.
You can turn around and trade the game for an immediate $8 credit towards XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Spec Ops: The Line is $5.99 through Gamefly through the 8th. Actual sale price is $7.50 but apply code 2GFT82012 for another 20% off when you’re checking out.
Despite the “Gamefly” name, this is an actual purchased Steam code to buy and own the game, not a rental or anything.
I’ve been too busy to keep up with this thread lately but I should be more active again. Thanks for Jophiel for pointing out a lot of stuff. Everyone else feel free to post stuff when you come across it.
That deal in the last post for FEAR and the Batman games can be combined with promo code OCTOFUN1 for 25% off, I think that applies to anything but new games and preorders on amazon.
Gamefly/d2d has Dead Island for $7.50 or $6 after promo code 2GFT82012 - I think you can only use the promo code on one game though.
Steam has Risen 2 franchise 66% off. Arcania and Gothic games 75%. Pride of Nations 75%.
Gamersgate has NFS: The Run for $5. I guess that one bombed pretty hard. Burnout Paradise: Ultimate $5. Sim City 4 Deluxe $5. Darkspore $5. Cities in motion franchise 66%.
Greenmangaming has a bunch of really cheap games. Reign: Conflict of Nations, Hacker Evolution, UFO: Aftermath, Tower Bloxx Deluxe at 50 cents each. Not sure if any are good. Tomb Raider Anniversary $2. Bulletstorm $5. Commandos 3 $1.
If you use Origin, they have a one-time use code ( OS3874XVC ) for $20 off a PC download game. Can’t be a new release (30 days), Star Wars: TOR, Valve title or some other restrictions. Basically, an EA published game of at least $19.99 from the Origin store. It’s supposed to be a reward for doing a survey but it’s a single universal code and works whether you did the survey for the “reward” or not.
You can use it for a $19.99 game and get, say, Dead Space 2 for free.
Last night, because EA is dumb, the code could be applied to every game you put in your cart until you checked out and people were getting something like 25 games for free. That’s no longer the case and now it’s a one shot code, so if you hear stories about it, that’s what happened.
Contains:
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Augmented Edition
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - The Missing Link DLC
Hitman: Blood Money
Just Cause
Just Cause 2
Quantum Conundrum
Supreme Commander 2
The Last Remnant
All Steam activated. Separate codes for everything so you can gift/sell/trade extras
If it shows “unavailable”, try again later because they ran out of codes for one or more games and need to restock.
There wasn’t any figuring out at first, you just kept checking out with different <= $20 games and applying the code, and got them added to your Origin account for free.
I got NFS Shift 2, Simcity 4, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Battlefield BC2 Vietnam, and Medal of Honor.
So definitely got me some new (to me) games to try. Crysis is pretty fun, it’s like Far Cry but you have a nano-suit with super powers.
Yeah, I got a number of games. I was referring to the period after they killed the “Fill your cart” phase and started trying to make it one use per customer (but failed trying various methods).
Origin has since come out and said they have no intent on doing anything about the games that were “bought” with the coupon and hope everyone enjoys their new games.
